Joanne Wormsbacher Obituary

Wormsbacher
Joanne Wormsbacher
June 10, 1936
December 30, 2023

Joanne Alice Wormsbacher, age 87, of Tyrone, GA, passed on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Joanne was born on June 10, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Walter and Alice Bader. She lived a life of endless curiosity filled with unforgettable experiences and many friends. Joanne's doctors once predicted she'd only live until the age of 45, but she was determined to prove them wrong.
Joanne was married for 43 years to Edward A. Wormsbacher. She was a trailblazer in her own right, balancing motherhood with a part-time career as a medical technologist at a time when few women worked outside the home. Together with her husband, Ed, she owned a business in Colorado Springs for two decades.
Joanne had a real spirit of adventure. She loved Colorado and its hunting, fishing, and rock hounding opportunities. She earned a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying with her husband and friends from the 99's women's pilots association in her Cessna 182. Joanne was a volunteer for Life Spark Hospice and member of a mission team to France.
Joanne enjoyed traveling and went on many adventures with her daughter Nadine. Her trips included the Republic of Korea, France, Italy, and Russia. Joanne got certified to scuba dive at age 61, and went diving in the Cayman Islands, Roatan, Cozumel, and diving with sharks in the Bahamas. At 83 she took a month long trip to New Zealand. She loved animals and horses, and rode a horse on her 85th birthday.
In her final years, Joanne lived with and then near her son James, in Georgia. She loved to sing and was a lifelong, voracious reader. She was trained in Reiki and even taught a few basic meditation classes at her independent living facility.
Joanne was a positive, amazing lady who was loved by many. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Deb) Wormsbacher of Colorado Springs, CO, James Wormsbacher of Tyrone, GA, and Nadine Wormsbacher of Hollytree, AL, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Sandy Young, and a multitude of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her sisters Barbara (Droudes), Jeri (Denniston), and Joyce (Valen).
In accordance with Joanne's wishes, cremation has been completed, and a memorial to honor her remarkable life will be held Saturday April 6, 2024 in Tyrone GA, at Dogwood Church Student Center at 4 pm. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joanne's name to an organization of your choice that serves animals.

When I started the Red Hat group at my home in 2005, I had no idea what wonderful women I would have in my life! Joanne was definitely one of them. She always came in full costume with a big hat and a bigger smile. Rest in peace, my friend. Colorado Springs was never the same when you moved east.
