Joe Martinez was born March 22, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas to Maria and Toribio Martinez. He met and married his wife, Annie of 56 years in San Antonio. Joe honorably served our country in the US Navy and Coast Guard. When returning home he began a career in civil service at Fort Sam Houston. He eventually moved to Colorado Springs in 1984 working as a commissary officer at Fort Carson until his retirement. Joe with his wife, served in many volunteer and community activities over the years. He also served years in the Knights of Columbus and as a District Deputy for the state of Colorado. Joe enjoyed his mountain getaways including yearly fly-fishing, camping, boating, hunting, gambling, golfing and horse races. He loved being with his family more than anything.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Martinez (2013). Joe is survived by his 3 children, JoAnn Polizzi, Gilbert Martinez and Patty Alvarado. Grandchildren, Michele O'Neill, Jennifer Wright, Steve Alvarado, Marcus Alvarado and Joseph Polizzi. Great grandchildren, Zoe Dezellem, George O'Neill, Travis Dezellem, Niamh O'Neill and Robert Wright.
Visitation will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, Thursday, January 20, 2022 5-7pm. 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. Rosary 6:30pm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 11am at St. Dominics Church, 5354 US-85, Colo. Spgs, CO. 80911. Burial at Evergreen Cemetary following funeral mass.
