Joel Berner Obituary

Joel A. Berner Sr., 74 of Colorado Springs, CO, born February 2, 1942, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, IL.

Mr. Berner was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Shirley Berner (Briscoe), his first wife Judith Wolfe Berner, and a grandson Christopher Morgan. Surviving him are his second wife Eva Berner, brothers Paul and John Berner, four sons Joel, Mark, James, and David Berner, two daughters Rebecca Gomez and Brenda Juarez, stepchildren Terry Lane and DeeAnn Moore, 18 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Joel was raised in Lebanon, IL where he enjoyed playing sports and attending church with family and friends. He also played the trumpet and sang solos for church services.

Mr. Berner was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a patriot who worked in entertainment, real estate, insurance, retail and management. However, he spent most of his civilian life as a truck driver. Although he traveled extensively, he loved God, and he loved his family.

Joel only had to meet someone once to remember his or her name forever. His sense of humor was infectious, and he was always making friends out of strangers wherever he went. He had a sharp wit and was a notable Jeopardy buff. He was an outstanding pool player and won many awards.

Services are at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 28 at First Pentecostal Church, 2950 Monica Drive.

Joel Berner Sr. is loved by many and will be missed greatly.
