Joel was born on April 4, 1959 in Kansas City Missouri to Lyle and Joan (Heilman) Ladefoged. He married the love of his life Paula (Elliott) Ladefoged on June 25, 1983 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They spent most of their lives in Colorado Springs until relocating to Monte Vista, Colorado in 2021.

Joel is survived by his wife and best friend Paula Ladefoged; his beloved children Rachael (Alexander) Else of Durango, CO, Robert (Timothy) Ladefoged of Colorado Springs, CO, Daniel (Amanda) Ladefoged of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren Bowen Else, Annabel Ladefoged, and Harper Ladefoged whom he absolutely delighted in. He is also survived by his brothers, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Ladefoged, Mark (Deanne) Ladefoged, and Bob Ladefoged; his sister-in-law Susan Taylor of Oro Valley, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Joel was an exceptionally kind, gentle, and joyous man. He had a deep heart for serving others and a deep faith in Jesus. His smile and warmth were a rock of support to Paula, their three kids, and the churches they served. He and Paula moved to Monte Vista with the dream of planting Restoration Anglican Church and remaining there for the rest of their lives. For Joel that dream came to fruition, but far sooner than they expected.

Joel was a licensed electrician who served in hospital facilities management until he retired in 2020. When he and Paula weren't with their children and grandchildren, they spent time exploring the mountains of Colorado in their camper.

Joel is preceded in death by both his parents; his parents-in law Robert and Mae Elliott, and brothers in law Robert Elliott and David Elliott.

A memorial service will be held at the International Anglican Church, 1305 N. Union Blvd, Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 17th at 3:00 pm

I am disappointed that I will be out of town on the 17th, as I would truly love to share my condolences and memories of my times with Joel. As said he was kind and gentle soul. I first met him at Penrose Saint Francis when he was the lead electrician in 2009 Joel was kind enough to play trumpet on my album cast from the shore. Later, when he was working for Goodwill, he helped me with a couple of electrical problems at my home but refused payment... So I insisted on a few six packs of good craft beer. I happily remember Joel playing trumpet for his neighborhood during the Covid crisis, to help, raise the spirits of those around him. I remain shocked that Joel passed, but I remain with fond memories of a truly good person who Is missed by many... Gary Morse

I knew Joel for about 15 years when we worked together at Penrose Saint Francis in Colorado Springs. He was one of the nicest most cordial people I’ve ever met, always with a smile and always good with intelligent conversation. Joel played the trumpet on a song that was included and my 2010 album called casting from the shore. Several times after I left Penrose Joel was kind enough to come over and help me with electrical problems. Sadly, I don’t know how we lost Joel, but it is indeed, a loss. I am so sorry for his family. I hope Joel is on a motorcycle somewhere, with the breeze blowing his hair

My family and the Ladefoged family were close friends for many years. Joel was a happy baby! I can not remember a time when he didn´t have a big smile on his face! In high school he was an accomplished musician, and was honored to attend (and march in) the Rose Bowl Parade...we were all so proud! I wasn´t privileged to be close to Joel during his adult years, but I think of his childhood years often ... and always with a smile!

I have known Joel forever. I used to accompany him on the piano when he had trumpet competitions in high school. I´m so sad to hear this. Mark, Jeff, Bob, and Paula, my prayers and thoughts are with you all.
