John Fredrick Bernheim died at home on August 25, 2025, he was 84. John was the third of four children born to Frederick and Virginia Bernheim. John grew up in Cheyenne Canyon and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1959, where he managed the hockey team. John spent most of his adult life managing the family printing business, Gowdy Printcraft Press, during which time he became very involved in the United States Olympic movement, printing many team materials, and particularly those for USA Hockey. John traveled to (then) Yugoslavia for the Winter Olympics in 1984. John was also a member of the Broadmoor Curling Team and attended many national events to support the sport as a spectator. John loved to be in the mix of people and business scene in Colorado Springs and had a vast array of friends. In his heyday, John was considered a bit of a bon vivant in and around Colorado Springs until he settled down and married Mary Grace Morris in 1994. The year 2024 was a particularly difficult one for John, as he lost his niece Lynleigh, older sister Phyllis, older brother Robert, and his faithful companion Bandit the Beagle. John is survived by his wife Mary, his mother-in-law Mary Louise Morris, his nieces Amanda Bernheim, Britt Ludwig (Bernheim), Marilyn Bertagnolli (Campbell), Missy Campbell, Elizabeth Morris, and by nephews Kyle Bernheim, Jason Campbell and William Morris V. John is preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Virginia, his sister Phyllis Allen, brothers Daniel and Robert Bernheim, and niece Lynleigh Holmes. A memorial service will be held at 12PM on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Evergreen Funeral Home located at 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to Pikes Peak Humane Society.
