Louise, my prayers are with you and the family. I am so sorry for your loss. I shall never forget the great John Bowen and the contribution of beautiful music he gave to Mt. Pisgah MBC, Chicago, IL. God bless you.

What an amazing gift to the body of Christ locally and globally! I want to extend my sincerest expressions of bereavement and comfort to the family and friends of Colorado Springs and beyond to one of the most masterful composers of music in twentieth century John A. Bowen. I am incredible grateful to have 'sit at his feet' to learn, to observe and witness the music that is so dear to us in theory and in practice come alive. I am so thankful that I had an earthly opportunity along with others to sing in the 'key of John'. Mr Bowen your presence will certainly be missed. How grateful i am that God allowed our paths to cross. The prepared must definitely be speechless because your arrival in that land so 'bright and fair' Sleep on soldier!

Bro. Bowens will truly be missed. He was such a kind man, but when it came to music he would encourage me to hit notes that I didnt think I could reach. I will miss Bro. Bowens. But I know that I will see him again. God Bless. Sis. Bowens I Love You. God Bless.

Enjoyed choir and music classes with Mr. Bowen at Wasson. He was a very talented musician who shared the joy of music with us all. My prayers and condolences to all of who will greatly miss him.

Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during the death of John. Your dear husband, and our dear teacher, mentor, musician extradinaire, friend and colleague was a man whose life was a blessing to all who knew him and whose work—along with that of so many others —helped to bend the arc of history ever closer to greater justice and mercy. Because of his commitments, his courage, and his example, me and my family give thanks for the life, gifts and talents for ministry of John Bowen. For all the children and adults who learned from him, and for those who continue in the work he started within them and beyond, we are encouraged to persist in our own commitments, as individuals, and inspired in this season to be a light in the world. May God's amazing grace surround you, and may God's unending love bring you comfort in this difficult time.

Mrs. Bowen you have my sincere condolences, I had the pleasure of attending Trinity Baptist Church where you were our Sunday School Teacher and Mr. Bowen was the Master Musician. May God comfort and console your family during this time of grief.

While John taught music at Monroe, I was teaching music at nearby Emerson. I always heard great things about Mr. Bowen. For many years I would get to sit with John at Colorado ACDA and CMEA sessions, especially reading sessions. He was a soft-spoken gentleman with a great knowledge of music. I will miss visiting with John at our state music conventions. May God bless your family with strength and great faith during this difficult time. Paul and Kammi Eckhoff

Out of the many blessings that the Lord has sent my way, there are none greater than you brother Bowen. The time you spent teaching me the proper way my bass guitar should accompany a organ, a choir, a praise team, a man's chours, a soloist, and an MC is truly priceless.
