John Brink Obituary

John Sheldon Brink, 54, owner of Brink's Fine Jewelry in Grand Junction, CO, died on July 4, 2012 from injuries sustained in a surfing accident in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. John, the only son of Sally (Peebles) Brink and the late Sheldon Earl Brink, was born on July 21, 1957 in Bitburg, Germany. After graduating in 1975 from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, John began his career as an accomplished jeweler. He settled in Grand Junction and married Deborah Bliss, the mother of his children. John was an artist whose creativity was expressed in all facets of his life: exquisite custom jewelry, gardening and wine-making. He loved fishing the rivers and lakes of Colorado as well as the waters off Cabo San Lucas. John was a Boy Scout leader, member of the local Porsche Club and known as the best classroom "Mom" in his children's grade school. John's zest for life, generosity and kindness of spirit were known to all. John is survived by his loving wife, Janet L. Brink; son, Dustin Michael Brink (Broomfield, CO); daughter, Blair Nicole Brink and grandson, Ouray Lee Baird (Grand Junction); mother, Sally P. Brink (Colorado Springs); five sisters, Martha Wright (Lynchburg, VA), Janet Villafane (Peachtree City, GA), Susan Urban (Colorado Springs), Karen Peterson (Mount Vernon, WA) and Laura Foster (Anchorage, AK); and numerous nieces and nephews. "You can shed tears that he is gone or you can smile because he lived." Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, CO on July 12, 2012. Memorial donations can be sent to Community Hospital Foundation (2021 North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501), Rose Hill Hospitality House (in care of St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1628, Grand Junction, CO 81502) or First United Methodist Church (522 White Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501).
