John Cassiani Obituary

John A. Cassiani, a leader in real estate development and community service in the Colorado Springs area, died on April 14, 2017. He was 69 years old.

John was the oldest of six children, born on June 18, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He celebrated much success academically and athletically in high school; he graduated as Valedictorian and as a star of his basketball team, securing him a full-ride scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh.

John spent the first part of his career in the Environmental Engineering equipment industry with Envirotech and then Denver Equipment, which is the company that brought him to Colorado Springs. His experience as VP of Sales and Marketing supported his transition to real estate development. During his robust career, he was involved in land and residential lot development, apartment development, including HUD 221(d) 4 projects, and retail and office development. He was also the VP of Project Operations for the Banning Lewis Ranch Development, a twenty-three thousand acre planned community east of Colorado Springs.

John also spent two years working with the Colorado Springs EDC in attracting new companies to the Colorado Springs area and creating jobs, and two years as the President of Colorado Springs Forward.

John committed himself to serving the Colorado Springs community through volunteer efforts. Some of his board appointments included President of the Housing and Building Association, Silver Key, Cheyenne Mountain District 12 School Board, and Sports Corporation.

Though busy in the Colorado Springs community, John always put family first. His wife of forty-five years, Erena, was the love of his life. They cherished each other's company through travel, golf, and social gatherings. John fostered a large network of wonderful friends during his thirty-six years in the area, and enjoyed playing pickle ball, tennis, golf, and racquetball with them, as well as traveling with them and celebrating milestones.

John was frequently seen on the CMHS campus while his daughters, Maria and Gina, were in high school, supporting them at their various sporting or academic events. He and Erena loved visiting their daughters, as both moved around the country, enjoying Chicago, New York, Seattle, and San Francisco.

In recent years, he loved spending time with his four grandchildren. Mia, Lila, Andrew, and Olivia loved Papa's stories and his morning pancakes.

Memorial Mass, 11:00AM, Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.

Private Inurnment will be held at Mount St. Francis Columbarium.

I spent some time reading these wonderful tributes John. It doesn't surprise me that he was the school valectorian. He always had a twinkle in his eye when I saw him. Most of these comments are from friends from the past. We were proud to know him during this phase of his life.

Was saddened to hear of John's passing. He was one of my dad's favorite b-ball players to coach....talented and always
showed superb character. An integral part of my husband's high school class, everyone respected John tremendously.
He will live on in the hearts of family, relatives, and friends from Stowe Township, Pa., in Colorado, and many other locales. God Bless.

I went to high school with Johnny. He was one of a kind -- gentle, kind, polite, caring, smart -- the whole deal. We graduated together and he was our valedictorian. So very smart, one of a kind. I didn't know him well personally but the little I did know of him I know he made a difference. God speed on angel wings.

Johnny and I go back about 65 years. We went through grade school and high school together. His parents and sisters were like family to me. I can remember walking to Stowe High School and stopping over his house in the morning to have some homemade bread his Mom had baked fresh almost daily. The Cassiani family was special. Johnny was special. He was the GOLDEN BOY. He was always a gentleman and so very smart. Graduated our valedictorian and we knew he would be very successful. He met the love of his life in high school. Erena was his princess. She was beautiful and very intelligent too. They were meant to be together forever. When we learned that Johnny had died, besides being shocked we were devastated. Not our Johnny!!! This couldn't be true and we still don't want to believe it. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Dear Erena and family we cannot imagine the agony you are going through right now. Your loss is our loss. We loved him like a brother. He will never be forgotten and we will pray for him and your family to be able to deal with this great loss. Cherish the memories and the love he had for all of you. Our deepest sympathies and love. I wish we could have given him a hug one more time and let him know how special he was to so many people. Especially those who went to Davis School and Stowe High School together. He will NEVER be forgotten. God Bless!!
