John Eck Obituary

John Joseph Eck, 94, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2016 and entered into the presence of God.

Born April 7, 1921, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, John began a life of selfless service that defined The Greatest Generation. After working on the family farm through the Great Depression, he volunteered to serve in the US Army and was stationed in Pearl Harbor. His life was forever changed on December 7, 1941, assisting in triage at Tripler Army Hospital.

Following his service in World War II and the Korean War, John completed his 20-year military career. He successfully transitioned to the private sector, as a sales representative for dental products with SS White and Pennwalt Corporations. He moved to Colorado where he retired in 1985, an avid supporter of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.

Of all aspects of his life, John was most proud of his faith and his family: his wife of 59 years, Ruth; his three children Jim Eck (Roxanne), Anne Schmidt (Brad) and David Eck (Katie), 5 grandchildren (Michael, Jen, Steve, Emily and Caroline) and one great-grandchild (John).

Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. at Saint Peter Catholic Church, 55 N. Jefferson, Monument, Colorado. Tributes can be made to Saint Peter Catholic Church.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ruth and all the Eck family. Caroline and I, and our daughters, always enjoyed speaking with Mr. Eck at church. He was a true gentleman who always had a warm smile and a friendly-strong handshake.
