John Garcia Obituary

John Severo Garcia, 65, passed away on June 10, 2016 in Colorado Springs. John was born on July 14, 1950 to Ignacio and Mary (Arellano) Garcia in Clayton, New Mexico. Due to his father's extensive military career, the family moved quite frequently. John graduated high school in Florida before studying psychology in Pueblo, Colorado.

During John's younger years, he worked as a ski patrol in the mountains. After 30 years of employment, John retired from UPS as a delivery driver.

John married Linda Willcox in 1972 in Colorado Springs. He was a family man who enjoyed surfing, running in Garden of the Gods, going to the mountains, riding around in his 1963 Stingray Corvette and especially…golfing! (He won several trophies from golfing in tournaments.) In 2004, he and Linda had their dream home built in Colorado Springs. His resilience was something to be admired. After two kidney transplants, a shoulder replacement, a hip replacement and a bout with skin cancer, it's safe to say he was a fighter through and through.

John is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughters: Latisha Cruz and Angela Garcia; brothers: Bob and Ron Garcia; sisters: Peggy Pagan, Carol (Alex) Lontayo and Adelina Zingle and two grandchildren: Chris Romero and Jasmine Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard.

Rest in peace, John. May you be "flying like an eagle."
