John Glenn Obituary

John Clifford Glenn was born December 27, 1928 to James and Artie Glenn in Louisville, KY and was called home on November 3, 2014 in Three Rivers, MI. John, known as "Pete" by family and friends, served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 - 1949 in San Diego, CA where he met and married his wife, Delcena (Zentz) on September 18, 1948. Pete attended Bible College in Ardmore, OK and was ordained as a Baptist minister on January 18, 1952 in Colorado Springs, CO. He served as Pastor of various churches including 17 years with Grace Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Pete worked as a glazier for several glass shops in Colorado Springs and installed glass in numerous commercial buildings including the Air Force Academy chapel. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horses and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Delcena Glenn, parents, James and Artie Glenn, as well as two brothers, Orville Glenn and James B. Glenn, Jr, and a sister, Teresa Glenn. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Dustin Schmeiser and Joey Glenn.

John is survived by four children; John (Sandi) Glenn of Okeechobee, FL; Ron (Becky) Glenn of Colorado Springs, CO; Cathy (Mike) Dunn of Three Rivers, MI; David (Karen) Glenn of Colorado Springs, CO. He was proud of his fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; Angela (Elton) Boney and sons Leo and John Lawton of Okeechobee, FL; Josh Glenn and sons Brandon and Ian of Colorado Springs, CO; Jessica (Zac) Christensen of Denver, CO; Jeremy of Colorado Springs, CO; Kimberly (Stephen) Wojcieszak and children Aubrey and Cody of Okeechobee, FL; Kristy (Marcus) Moss and sons Wesley, Kolby and Kory of Bay City, TX; Jenny (Mitch) Hutchinson of Jupiter, FL; Davey (Amy) Glenn and children Phoebe, Noah, and Naomi of Colorado Springs, CO; Melissa Glenn of Denver, CO; Stephanie Glenn and son Jonah of Colorado Springs, CO; Jessica Brushwein and son Lyric and Scott Brushwein of Colorado Springs, CO.

John is also survived by two sisters; Earleen Wise and Betty Rogers both of Louisville, KY; sisters-in-law, Colleen Gilmore, Mary Offineer, Ann (Gilbert) Lazor, Mona (Lonnie) Padgett, Marlene (Jim) Beaman, Mae Zentz, Nancy Zentz; two brothers-in-law, Lynn (Joanie) Zentz, and Randy (Carol) Zentz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The last three years of his life were spent living with his daughter, Cathy, in Three Rivers, MI where he continued to minister the Gospel of Grace to residents of area nursing facilities. Pete's life touched the lives of many people in meaningful ways with his loving and generous spirit. We were blessed to be part of his life and will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 5590 N. Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Fellowship Bible Church.

You will be forever in my heart uncle pete, i have such fond memories of you sir, like when you pulled my tooth out when i was a little girl. You are heroic dear uncle because your gospel has touched and saved so many, myself included. We are a blessed family to now have you as a guardian angel. I love you eternally and hope you are proud i found the light. Heaven just got a lot brighter with you up there. p.s. im sorry i told on you for smoking in roberts truck when i was little hehe. Rest in paradise dearest unc.

Uncle Pete.so many memorys! from crew cuts an a bottle pepsi,to accepting JESUS CHRIST,AN being babtized by you.uncle pete pulled my daughters first tooth at colleens house. one of my fondest memories, was the yr. i gave u an amanda, a ride home, from elk hunting, in my cuzen Roberts truck.uncle pete an i, were very careful,as we smoked on the way home. makeing sure we didnt leave Roberts truck smelling of marlboro, an uncle petes pipe tobbaco. lol my daughter Amanda, left Robert a note, IN the back seat AS she told on us for smokeing in his truck! lol just one of many memeories. most IMPORTANT, UNCLE PETE thank you for teaching me about the LORD. an look forward to the day! when we all meet again.in CHRIST NAME amen.
