John Harding Obituary

April 9, 1922 - February 10, 2009
John Wesley Harding went home to be with the Lord and his heavenly family on February 10, 2009. He was born and raised in Colorado Springs on April 9, 1922 to Josephine and Vanlou J. Harding, the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters. He served his country as a medic during WWII in the 242nd Infantry, Rainbow Division, US, Army. John was a member of the National Association of Rainbow Division Veterans, the Colorado Natives club, and the Poetry Fellowship Association of Colorado Springs. John is survived by special friend Annie Finney, daughters Sheri A. Van Dusen, (husband Ron), Sylvia Kelly, son Dalmaine Harding, grandsons Alan John Van Dusen, (wife Carolyn), Christopher Kelly, Joseph Kelly, Benjamin Kelly, and great-grandchildren Kayla and Eric Van Dusen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Our beloved Dad, and "Uncle John" will be deeply missed, and always thought of, and remembered with loving memories. Join us for a Celebration of Life at Sunny Side Church, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 2025 N. Murray Blvd. Viewing is at 12:00 p.m. and service is at 1:00 p.m., followed by military honor guard service at Evergreen Cemetery. Special thanks to cousins Larry and Jeanette Herbert for their gracious hospitality and assistance to our family during this time, we are truly blessed by our wonderful family. This is the last verse of my father's poem titled; "Night"
Bring back my Dearest from afar, I pledge my wish, upon the star,
That first appears with evening's dew, And last to shine, when morn is new.
Oh...brilliant moon of cold midnight, Cloak both our worlds in stardust white.
And let our fates become aware, Our hearts are wed with dreams we share.

When I remember my great uncle John I have happy feelings. He was an amazing person and very talented artist, music composer, and poet. His memory makes me want to be a better and more helpful person. I loved him and appreciated him. He was always friendly towards me and my family.

I still think of him often. What a blessing.

To John's family,
John played an important role during the final years of the Poetry Fellowship of CS. He was a talented poet. I value having known him. I don't remember if my mother, Jessie(Gottgetreu) Grey--long-time member of the PFCS, realized they probably both went to CSHS. Cherish your memories and his poetry.

John Harding was my loving great-uncle. He was the last of his siblings and it was always enjoyable to visit with him. He truly grew up in a different era and loved talking about American History and his family. He will always be missed & loved.

Dalmaine, so sorry to hear of your loss, I recall meeting your father only once when you lived on North Weber or Washatch and we were having Bible lessons many years ago.
