DEACON JOHN HENRY HENDERSON, SR.
June 25, 1927 August 20, 2018
John Henderson Sr. was born June 25, 1927 in Lexington, Virginia, to Floyd Henderson and Louise Mathews. John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957. He served in Japan, Guam and Philippines. After leaving the Military he went to work in the Garment District in New York. John later became a Police Officer. He went on to accept a position with the New Jersey Transit as a Bus Driver. After retirement he became a Business Agent.
John studied classical music with Dizzy Gillespie and Paul Whitman. John and Maggie were married on 06/18/1955 and lived in New Jersey before moving to Colorado Springs in 1991. Once they were settled they join Friendship Baptist Church in 1994 and actively began working with in the Church Ministry. John served on the Board of Trustees, and was an Ordained Deacon. He also sang with the Mission Choir and Men Choir.
John is survived by his wife Maggie S Henderson of 62 yrs., 2 Daughters, Treasell S. Henderson-Thomas and Debbie I. Arnold and one Son, John Henderson Jr. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren, one brother Rev. Manneth Henderson (Bessie) of Atlanta, GA and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for 08/31/2018 from 4-7pm at Angelus Chapel, 1104 S Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Funeral Services will take place at Friendship Baptist Church, 633 East Dale St on 09/01/2018 at 11:00am. John Henderson Sr. will be laid to rest at Ft Logan National Cemetery on 09/04/2018 at 12:30 pm.

Hello Dad, Its been 5yrs since you been sent to Heaven. I miss you so much. This has been a said day for me. I always think about our times. Mom is now with you and you both are my loving angels watching over me. It's so hard to not have you physically here to speak to but I know you can here me. I love you Dad and Happy Heavenly Birthday. Sending a big hug and Kiss. I will be there to see you and mom this year at Ft Logan your resting place. Love you Sandy

Hello Dad.. Its been a year already and I truly miss you so much.. you are my special Angel and its truly been hard for me with know one to with with and laugh with.. I love you Dad so much.. I am taking care of mom and its truly been hard for her.. we will all meet soon and then we can sing our favorite songs.
