John Herrick Obituary

Nick and my brother Buck were St. Cecilia classmates, so we go back a long time. Both Buck and I send our sympathies to all Nick's brothers and sisters. This has surely been a sad month for all of you, and we send our warmest thoughts.

I have not seen Nick in 40 years since our Iowa State days and yet the image is still vivid of this gentle man with the engaging smile, a twinkle in his eyes and always a good word. You can't help but smile too when you think of him which makes his passing even more poignant and sad. My thoughts are with his family as they grieve their loss.

I will miss Nicholas so much. We were very close for many years and in love for a few. Getting a hug from Nicholas Herrick was the safest place I have felt on earth. I am sad for his family and friends and me but glad that his heart is free and his loving spirit can watch over us all and continue his journey in the cosmos.

Nick was the center of my world for many years and will always hold a special place in my heart. Fond memories of his smile, his thoughtfulness, and his devotion to his family will stay with me forever. My deepest sympathies go out to Nick's family during this time of sorrow.

Nick was a person to have a smile and a good word for all of us at Ames High. I have to believe we never lose the ones we love even though they're gone. Within our hearts their memory lingers on.

My friendship with Nick started in the 8th grade and continued through our high school years. I'll always remember him as one of the "GOOD GUYS" who could light up any room with his smile, enjoyed life, and loved his family.

Thank you, Nick, for your warmth and kindness to us all. We'll meet again some day. May your light help guide our way.

Nick is one of those people who is remembered fondly more than 40 years after we graduated from AHS. He is the epitome of a kind and good person and I am grateful for the opportunity to have shared some of his time on earth.

What a warm and wonderful person he was - his loss will leave a hole in your family and lots of wonderful memories.

Nick was loved by all and missed over the years since AHS days. I will never forget him and our great times, from kindergarten on. Endless memories of Nick and his wonderful family will always be with me. My heartfelt sympathies to you all, especially coming so soon after losing your dad. Sent with much love...
