John Hughes Obituary

John G. (Jay) Hughes passed away in Colorado Springs, Saturday May 14, he was 86. He lived a long and productive life and was much loved and admired by his family and friends. He retired as a vice president of the Lee Co. in Kansas City and went on to work a variety of other jobs throughout his retirement, most recently at Dillard's Chapel Hills. He was also very talented artistically. He considered himself lucky to have been married to the woman he loved, Martha Jane Cox, for nearly 60 years. He is survived by three children: Quincy (Oak Park, IL), Cathy (Colorado Springs, CO) and Mark (Centennial, CO, spouse, Trudy Wilen) Hughes; seven grandchildren: Matthew (spouse, Nicole Katonah), Myles and Morgan (spouse, Stephen Lipton) Murphy, Clinton and Caty Hughes, Caitlyn and Eugenia O'Dell-Hughes; and a great-grandson, Joshua Katonah-Murphy. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund.

I enjoyed working for Mr. Hughes as his secretary at the Lee Company. We kept in touch after his retirement and he always had a positive attitude and an adventurous spirit. He will be missed but not forgotten - so many wonderful memories of a real gentleman.
