John Hummel Obituary

John B. Hummel, age 81, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1998 and formerly of Chicagoland, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence in Colorado Springs after a long illness. He was a retired Chemist with Best Foods CPC International. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

John Burton Hummel was born on October 15, 1934 in Jasper County, Iowa, to the late Edwin Henry and Mamie Evelyn (Bond) Hummel. He graduated from Colfax High School in Colfax, Iowa and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Della Maxine Armentrout on September 30, 1955 in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Maxine was his constant companion and they lived in Pekin, Illinois; Hinsdale, Illinois; Somerville, New Jersey; and Naperville, Illinois. He was a Gideon, Chicago Bears Football Fan, and a proud parent. He was a man of faith who worked for NAE. He loved American History, travel, mediation and godly church leadership. He will be best remembered as "Quiet John."

He is survived by his beloved wife; Maxine, his daughter; Deb McNeill of Colorado Springs, his son; Richard (Sheri) Hummel of Salem, West Virginia, his six grandchildren; Tiffany (Robert) Barnett, Ricki Hummel, Caitlyn McNeill, Leighanne (Cliff) Webb, Abe Hummel and Luke Hummel. He has six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother; Dick Hummel.

Celebration of Life Service, 11:00AM, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Church.

Burial Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 South Hancock Avenue.
