John Larkin Obituary

John M. Larkin, age 88, of Colorado Springs passed away on September 17, 2006 at Pikes Peak Hospice. Born on January 15, 1918, in Nantucket, MA., he lived there until leaving to attend Norwich University in Vermont. He entered the Air Force in 1939 at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. During pilot training he met and married Bernice Giraud who remained his faithful companion and wife for 55 years. She preceded him in death in 1995. John was a retired Air Force Colonel, a decorated WWII veteran including the French Croix de Guerre medal. While serving he flew 52 combat missions, including Normandy. He is survived by his daughters: Patricia Hickl (Bill), of Houston, TX and Kathleen Gamblin (Ken), of Colorado Springs; and his son Michael Larkin (Katie), of Northglenn, CO. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Coffin, of Nantucket, MA; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. Graveside Memorial Services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at Staging Area "A", on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, CO 80235. Memorial contributions may be made in John Larkin's memory to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO., 80903.

I met him on a school trip at christmas time we were giving gifts to the hospital a very nice man who the world will miss.
