John Goodwin McIlnay passed away in Colorado Springs on March 1st, 2023, at the age of 85. Jack, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on February 10, 1938 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was the only child of his parents, Charles Vaughn McIlnay and Sarah Elizabeth (Goodwin) McIlnay. He attended Westmont High School in Johnstown and graduated from Penn State University in 1960 with a bachelors' degree in electrical engineering. That same year, he married Carolynn Quarles.
Jack worked for the Bendix Corporation and then for Westinghouse in Baltimore, Maryland. While in Maryland, Jack attended George Washington University, completing his masters' degree in engineering administration and a professional degree in computer science. Jack obtained a private pilot's license, owned his own plane, and was active in the Maryland Civil Air Patrol.
On March 17, 1979 Jack married Linda Jean Forsythe. The couple moved to Colorado Springs in 1980, where Jack was employed by The MITRE Corporation until his retirement.
Jack was a true gentleman, known for his congeniality and his love of the outdoors. He was a skilled outdoorsman who skied, hiked, camped, hunted and fished throughout the Colorado mountains. Jack and Linda completed several long-distance bicycle trips in the U.S. and also traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. Jack's many interests included genealogy, wine making, carpentry, and photography. He is survived by his wife, Linda McIlnay.
