John Tutt Obituary

JULY 22, 1939-MAR 3, 2006. John Tutt, a long time resident of Telluride, passed on peacefully at 12:01 a.m., Friday March 3, 2006 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs after a short illness. A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Telluride on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Immediately after the service John will be interred at Lone Tree Cemetery. John was born at Penrose Hospital 66 years ago completing a circle that began as a member of a prominent Colorado Springs family who had been involved in the Cripple Creek gold mining rush, the Broadmoor Hotel, and the El Pomar Foundation. He was the son of Charles L. Tutt and Vesta Wood Tutt. John graduated from Thacher School in Ojai, California, Brown University and attended graduate school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He subsequently served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, specializing in communications. During this period he married Francoise Mazeaud-Dauriac of Paris, France. He is survived by their daughter, Vesta Veronique ("V.V.") Tutt-Pyk, her husband Lars Pyk and a newly born granddaughter Selma Vesta Louise Tutt-Pyk of Cordon, France. After military service, John returned to civilian life in Aspen with Diane Rousseau. They later married and moved to Telluride where they pursued many historic restorations. John supported early Telluride festivals and events. He was a member of the Elks and Telluride Jeep Club. Throughout his life John was interested in a diversity of people and had friends in many walks of life. John loved Telluride and never regretted dropping out of the mainstream. He recently said,"When I die, the Victorian age has ended," a statement quite in character. He will be missed by friends and family.
