John Wojtowicz Obituary


John Wojtowicz, age 92, of North East, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Mary's East.

He was born on November 23, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Panko and Mary Luczka Wojtowicz.

John was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy on the USS Calvert as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class.

He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Medal, and Liberation Ribbon.

John was employed at the North East School District in maintenance until retirement and also a member of the Laborer's Union.

He was a member of St. Gregory Parish, a dedicated lifetime member of the VFW Post 4789 where he served as a commander and as a quartermaster for many years and lifetime member of American Legion Post 105.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ann Abata Wojtowicz (3-3-2000); step-son, Joseph M. Ciminnisi III; sisters, Olga Thurik, Mary Lou Kasek, Stella Trewella; brother, Steve Stevens; grandson, Larry Joseph Cornmesser.

He is survived by his daughter, Louise M. Gornall and husband, Robert of Erie; step-daughter, Marlene A. Bartlett of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Jean Ann Corrarueias, Kim Zentano, Lane Romanick, and David Joseph Ciminnisi; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone at St. Mary's East for their excellent care and compassion.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake Street, North East on Tuesday at 11 a.m. until time of prayer service at noon at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Thomas Brooks. Interment St. Gregory Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 4789, 28 Vine Street, North East, PA 16428 or St. Mary's East, 607 East 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504. Please send condolences to www.elkinfh.com.

Louise and family, it's such a blessing that you had him for so long. Remember when you see him next time he will be a lot younger and a lot healthier.
