John Zemitis Obituary

April 16, 1918 - July 6, 2008. John M. Zemitis passed away peacefully on July 6, 2008 at Pike's Peak Hospice. John was born April 16, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA, son of Michael and Anna (Skamarakas) Zemitis. For 62 years he had been married to Florence nee Kielbasa, who survives him. He is survived by a son John Zemitis (Debbie) of Chino Hills, CA and daughters Mary Anne Wheeler (Paul) of Birmingham, MI and Patricia Penny (Curt) of Sterling, CO; grandchildren Kristen and Kaitlin Zemitis, Michael Wheeler, John Penny and Suzy Penny Hall (Scott); one great-grandchild John Austin Hall. John was predeceased by two sisters Fritz Dilks and Anita Maddox and survived by two half-brothers Joseph and James Yanush. John retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Lt. Col. after 34 years of service including World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He is a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He is a member of American Legion Post 209, the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, and the Military Order of World Wars. A funeral Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. Friday July 11 at St. Patrick's Church, 6455 Brook Park Dr., Colorado Springs.
