Joleen Kay

(Schuenight) Thompson

February 21, 2022

Joleen Thompson was born in Oklahoma, but spent much of her life in Colorado Springs, where she graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1972, got married, and raised her family.

As a devoted member of her community, Joleen was often drawn to creating or maintaining the beauty in her surroundings. Her love of nature compelled her to fight for the preservation of open spaces, create artwork through her Ikebana practice, and care for animals of all kinds. She was passionate about helping those in need and, as she often said, loved with "the intensity of a thousand suns".

Because Joleen touched so many lives, her family welcomes those who would like to celebrate her memory to join them for a memorial service on Sunday, March 20th. Please contact [email protected] for specific details, including location and time.

My heart is so sad, but Joleen blessed this world with her smile, kindness, love & laughter Truly one of the kindest people I have ever known.

I had the pleasure of calling Joleen my friend for 27-years since I was a senior at Cheyenne Mountain High School & I have such amazing memories. She helped me through many transitions & decisions in my life. Truly one of a kind & the world isn´t quite the same without her. My love & thoughts go out to her family & many friends - may our lives be filled with our sweet memories of Jolee - love you my dear friend xoxoxo

So very sorry to learn of Joleen's passing. She was a fellow 1972 CMHS graduate. I remember her bubbly personality and she had a way of making people smile. I'm sure she will be remembered at this year's 50th Class Reunion and by many others whose lives she had touched. May God Bless her and her family at this sad time.

I am so sad to discover Joleen has passed away. She was a soul striving towards a higher path. I am so sad that I was unable to tell her this. She made it to my own mom's funeral a couple of years (+) ago, I was so grateful, we sat together and reconnected after several years. She told me then that she had medical problems, I wish we were able to have spent more time reminiscing over the old days. She really was a good person who tried her best to make the best of things. She was also a collector of my art, one of my biggest collectors and gave me much support throughout the years,

You were such a huge part of my life, at every single stage!!! I am forever indebted to you and Chris for saving my life. Many healing memories on Saint Mary's Trail, finding the Lady Slipper Orchids, staying with you in Cucharra, hiking and running in Cheyenne Canyon and enjoying your beautiful presence. Miss you Joleen

Dearest Joleen, having known you through these years, the words to one of my favorite songs comes to mind "This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you". You always gave so much more than you received in return. I will miss your pure spirit, generosity and great beauty. Rest in peace.

Joleen helped me make it through Mrs. Murchinson's geometry and algebra class. Lots of memories from Cheyenne Canyon and other adventures with our group. The pics are from the class of '71 30-year reunion in 2001. I rented one of her units at the home compound. Farewell, friend.
