Jon Campbell Obituary

Jon David Campbell passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on September 26, 2008, after battling cancer for several years. He was born in Denver, CO on December 12, 1945 and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO. He was raised by his Mother Vera Mae (Campbell) Page and step-father Bob Page, both deceased. Jon is survived by Phyllis Campbell with whom he was married for 42 years, two children, son Scott and wife Maurie and their 3 children; His daughter Krista Campbell Beck and her husband Britt Beck and their twin girls; his step-brothers Bob Page and wife Lynne, and step-brother Jim Page and wife Bonnie, step-sister Patti and husband Dan Shrader. His sister Jacque Campbell preceded Jon in death. Jon started his first business in 1966, Campbell Concrete. Along with Bob Cullen, Jon built his first home in 1971. Since starting Campbell Homes over 37 years ago Jon built more than 4000 homes in many different communities including Norwood and Briargate. He also held a commercial building license. Jon was very active in the Colorado Springs Homebuilders Association, where he served as President and a member of the board for more than 30 years. He was selected as Builder of the year two times, and was also active with Homebuilders statewide and nationally. Jon particularly enjoyed his Builders 20 group, "Fools with Tools", a group of 20 homebuilders across the nation who shared ideas and support. Jon said to "Enjoy what you are doing", and was always excited to head to work. He was intensely interested and enthusiastic about his work. During the 1990's Jon became very involved with the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation and served on the EDC Board for several years. Jon loved traveling with his family. They enjoyed many outings in the mountains, skiing, boating trips to Lake Powell, traveling across the country in their RV and going to horse show competitions. Jon enjoyed with friends and family many fishing trips to Canada and cruise trips to the Caribbean. He always wanted to soak in the sun! Jon had a large support group and network of friends. Family meant the world to him. A Memorial service is being held in Colorado Springs at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 East Woodmen Rd., on October 21, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to The Jon Campbell Memorial Fund at Kirkpatrick Bank, 25 North Cascade, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, 80903. 719-593-7115. My condolences to Phyllis, Scott, Krista, and Britt on Jon's death. I know the past three years have all been annus horribilis and you are very brave to go on to plan the memorial service in the way he requested. Over the past forty-plus years, Jon was a valued member of our family and his passing leaves an empty spot - but lots of wonderful memories. How many family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners we shared together at each other's houses! I remember how much Jon loved being with family and friends, going around talking to relatives, children, cousins, even in-laws, and enjoying them all. Then he'd typically make a swoop through the kitchen to check on a tenderloin or start carving the turkey. And, remember the time we went skiing? Krista, about four, got off the trail and down into a ravine. Jon had to sidestep down and carry her back up, still screaming, under his arm. Do you remember how proud he was when Scott built his first house? How fortunate he was, also, to have a loving wife to care for him at home during two long years of awful medical treatments. And I'll treasure all the birthdays and new babies we celebrated together over the years. Despite the circumstances, we will all treasure these and more memories of him as part of our family (Ken always thought Mom loved him best) and take the best part away in our hearts.
All my love and sympathy,
Carol

Hopefully Jon is up there in heaven riding his Schwinn Corvette bike he worked so hard to buy as a child.
In some ways he was bigger than life. He was a great inspiration to me. I feel a real void without him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I believe the way we never die is by giving a part of us to others whom it lives on within. I feel I received a part from Jon and through my memories he lives on. I am sure this is true of many of us. My life has been enhanced by knowing him and for that I am truly thankful.

I was so blessed to have known Jon not only as my employer but as a mentor and a friend. Jon provided new learning opportunities and was always supportive of every endeavor. The words, "I can't" did not exist in Jon's vocabulary. We faced challenges and we celebrated victories...Jon loved both.

People enter into our lives perhaps for only a season but always for a reason. I am so fortunate to have had Jon as a part of my life. He will be remembered always and will be greatly missed by many.

My heartfelt sympathy to Phyllis, Scott, Krista and families.

A man of strength, a gentle bear.
A man of principle who always cared.
A man of courage who fought battles proudly.
A sensitive man whose smile spoke volumes.
A man who lived life to the fullest each day.
A man who helped others along his way.
A man who now gone leaves a hole in our hearts.
This man now in Heaven is in God's loving arms.

I am blessed to have known this extraordinary man, Jon David Campbell, and a better person for it. My sympathies to all who knew him and loved him.

We have lost a great friend and active community leader in Jon. Having served with him on many
community committees, he always
brought common sense and pride of
doing what was right for every
resident. That smile will always be
here and that twinkle in his eye
forever. To his family, thanks for sharing him with us all. May his light shine for all that follow in his steps.
