Jon Oscarson Obituary

Jon Oscarson, beloved husband, father, brother, cousin and friend died December 14th, in his own bed at home as he wished, with his family around him. Jon had a rich and full life and was an enthusiast of learning and adventure. He attended Penn State, Temple University, and had a Masters of Arts from Villanova. He was successful as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace defense industry. He was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. He enjoyed running, and in his younger years had climbed seven of Colorado's 14'ers. His Swedish heritage was important to him and he made several trips to Sweden to visit cousins and family sites. He took Swedish language classes for several years. He was also part of a French conversation group. He enjoyed classical music, and in later years learned to play the bassoon, and became a member of a band for seniors.

Jon's family was extremely important to him. He and his wife of 25 years, Jeanne Corley, built a loving home in Manitou Springs. He loved and was proud of his three girls, Jean Copeland and husband Rod, Carol Oscarson and husband Matt, and Chris Whipkey and husband Justus. Jon also loved and was active in the lives of his stepchildren, Rocke Corley, who died in 2003, Barry Corley and partner Ken Thompson, Chris Corley and wife Jackie, and Tammy Eckler. He enjoyed the company of and was fascinated by his grandchildren's interests and personalities: Seth Copeland, Heather Jensen and husband Michael, Aiden and Grayer Whipkey, Markus Corley, Truman, Nathan and Meredith Eckler and great grandchildren Emma and Eliott Jensen. Jon is also survived by his sister, Ruth Muri, his brother, Dave Oscarson, Dave's partner, Mark Chastaine, and Jon's niece, Christine Boehm and her family, and many loving cousins. Jon and Jeanne enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and throughout the U.S. He particularly enjoyed a Windjammer cruise off the coast of

Maine.

Jon was born March 31, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA and passed away after a long battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed. His family invites you to celebrate his life at a memorial service on December 30th, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs, with a reception following.

Dad,
We are now at our 4th Christmas without you. I’m still miss hearing your voice, enjoying your quick wit, and admiring your uncanny ability to just listen. All these things would’ve made our challenging year a little less so. Love you!
Love,
Jean

Daddy,
Always loving and missing you, the first man I ever loved and the first one to love me back. Your picture (when you were very young) is posted on my fridge, so I get to see you every day. Sure wishing it would be the real you. Three Christmases have gone by so quickly. I would love to be sitting by the fire at your house with our family with the classical music playing. I love and miss you dearly.
Love
Jean

Dear family of Jon Oscarson,
I am so sorry to hear that Jon has passed on. But I am so glad I got to talk to him recently to reminisce on some of the humorous times we shared while attending many technical meetings. He was always upbeat and joyous and it was such a privilege to work with Jon and share his humor on the team effort. l find some comfort in believing that his life continues in spirit and that nothing can take away from us the memories of all these good times we have experienced together.
My very best to you his loving family!

Jon, to me, you will always be Mr. Oscarson. Thank you for your kindness and wise words during times of adolescent angst. I am glad you lived a long, fulfilling life with family and wit: "He was a man, take him for all in all,/ I shall not look upon his like again." -- William Shakespeare, "Hamlet," I.ii.

My dearest Uncle Jon, you were such a pillar of intelligence, dry wit and integrity for me and I know for my brother Glenn as well. I am comforted by the thought that you and Glenn are having a wonderful conversation in heaven now, filled with intellectual wordplay and spirited banter. I will always treasure our special uncle-niece rapport and cherish memories of my numerous visits to your home. Rest in peace and love to you forever.

Never known to be at a loss for words, I find myself almost at a complete loss when thinking about my brother Jon. Our friendship and love grew from casual to significant in large art due to the loving influence f my dear sister-in-law Jeanne who through 25 years of marriage brought out so many endearing qualities in Jon while fostering the unique intellect and humor we all will remember. My brother is sorely missed and will be held close to my heart always. In brotherly love and with intense Swedish pride, Dave

Good times.

I love and miss you so much, Daddy. You were the first man I ever loved and the first one to love me back. You were also a wonderful father to Rod and a great Morf to Heather, Michael, Emma, and Eliott. We are comforted that you are now free from pain and in a place of love and peace. Jeanne was such a light in your life and we promise that she will always be a part of our lives. She is our family. We will carry on your sarcastic sense of humor and Swedish pride. As for me, I will continue to hear your voice and you will be in my heart everyday. Love, Jean
