Joseph Allen Obituary

Joseph Allen, Sr., dedicated father, uncle, grandfather and friend, ended his earthly journey on November 9, 2012. He was born in Broussard, LA on August 26, 1938 to Dalton and Anita Allen. Joseph Allen enlisted in the US Army Reserves on July 18, 1956 and was sent overseas for his first duty assignment. He separated from the Army after one year and eleven months because he was homesick. After returning home with $2000 to his name he moved in with his older sister and brother-in-law. Letting her hold his money for safekeeping, an unfortunate event occurred and she lost all of his money while going to church, so as a result, Joseph had no money and no income. Deciding to re-enlist into the regular Army, he served from July 1958 to May 1976 as a Chaparral Crewman, then worked on Nike Ajax System and finally as a ballistic missile test repairman. In the course of 20 years, he was stationed in Europe five times (Italy & Germany) then stateside living in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and Colorado. After separating from the Army he moved to Colorado Springs and worked for AMPEX Corp. for numerous years. He was united in holy matrimony to Dora Fay Allen at her parents' house February 20, 1960. To this union was born five children, three sons; Craig Allen, Joseph Allen, Jr., Michael (Nicci) Allen, and two daughters; Anita Allen & Renee Bigelow. He leaves to cherish his precious memory three sons, Craig Allen, Joseph Allen, Jr. & Michael (Nicci) Allen, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Ann (Regis) Gabriel of LaFayette, LA and Antonia Robinson of Houston, TX, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. For years he devoted his time and talent mentoring and coaching youth sports in the Colorado Springs area. One of his greatest accomplishments occurred in 1979 where he coached the El Paso County Little League 11-12 year old baseball team to win the Colorado State Championship. The true family man he was, he loved attending family reunions, supporting his kids and grandkids at school and sporting events. He also loved playing Pinochle and Poker every, Monday, Wednesday & Friday with a group of close friends...brothers for life. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dora Fay Allen, and two daughters, Anita Allen & Renee Bigelow. Visitation will be held, from 4:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, November 16, 2012 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue. Funeral Service will be 10:00AM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3615 Vickers Drive. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Avenue.

Rest in Paradise Uncle Joe. I will never forget the conversations we had regarding life and life's decisions. Had I been a GOOD teenager/young adult I would have followed each word for word. I am grateful for your love and kindness when we chose to learn the lessons the hard way. NOT once did you ever say... "I told you so" you would simply say "Lets go from here." Thank you Uncle Joe for always having a word to encourage and validate me as a woman. You were an encourager and a strong example of what it meant to be the head of the house and a MAN to his family! You loved us ALL flaws and all!
We love you and you will greatly be missed! Muah to you and the angels of heaven.
I can hear my Father in heaven say "Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done!"
Rest in eternal paradise,
Your Niece

Love is pure. Love is sweet. Love is kind. Love is real. That's how You were to me. I light a candle of love God's Agape Love.

November 16, 2012

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "come to me."
You didn't deserve what you went through, So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.

Praying for the family that you find peace and comfort. Love you All. THE HEARD FAMILY

To My Allen Family in Colorado Springs, Co. My deepest sympathy and love goes out to all of you while you experience the transition of our loved one Joe Allen. May his legacy live on in you, as my dad lives on in me. We are a beautiful family - I pray we continue to love and support one another. Not a lot of people have what we have - just the fact that we know each other and have our reunions to continue to know each other is priceless. From this commitment of love, I was able to meet and know my cousin. See you Cousin Joe in eternity. Love Cousin Debra Allen Porter in California.

Dear Allen and Bigelow families,
Grandpa, as we affectionately called him, will be dearly missed at Future Stars basketball games. Our children are better people because of his presence at practices and games. We will fondly remember him for his love of family and basketball.

The word of God says in John's Gospel 14th chaper verses 1-6; "Do not let your hearts be troubled, You have faith in God; have faith also in me..."
My cousins keep the faith as Jesus tells us to and trust that his grace and mercy will always see us through all that life can hit us with. We are praying now as always for all the family in this time of sorrow. God Bless and keep you. Charles and Pauline Allen and family.

WOW! There is no words I cannot express my sorrow that I carry for the loss of my beloved Uncle Joe. To Craig, Joseph Jr.,Micheal, Anita, Renee and his two loving sister's Mary Ann (Na-Na) and Aunt Tina (Tonia), that he was very proud and supportive of his family. Uncle Joe was the biggest inspiration I've ever met in my life- he never stopped smiling and humoring his relatives' quirky senses of humor in spite of everything he when through! Uncle Joe Spirit was so big that it could move mountains. You have been a role model in my life. I will never forget when you and the family would come to Lafayette for the summer. The first thing we would get is boudin and hard crackers and than we would sit around the table and play Billing Casino, then I would have everyone laughing. Uncle Joe, I will always remember the Family Reunion in Colorado, the good time and the hospitality that you always give. Thank you! I cannot bear this deep down my heart. Please know that with deep remembrance and kind sympathies, his soul will be rested in peace. May God's grace and blessing's comfort you during this difficult time? He was a real hero and a divine soul. May GOD rest his soul in peace? I love u always...Christian
