Joseph Martinez Obituary

Joseph G. Martinez, a Colorado Springs resident for 40 years, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013. He provided nutrition service for the City of Colorado Springs. Joseph was born on April 22, 1947 in Trinidad, Colorado to John B. and Grace (Tafoya) Martinez. He married Dolores Rios on December 11, 1982. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Society. He was very independent and loved fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed visiting Virgil's Farm and attending to the horses and animals there. He adored his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; their children: Virginia Shanks, Valarie Martinez, Dolores (husband, Roy) Raniello, Vanessa (husband, Rodney) Cain, Virgil Martinez, Jr., and Davina (husband, Donnie) Nelson; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Helen Basquez, and Mary Aragon; and a brother, Pete Martinez. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Martinez. A visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 South Corona Avenue. A reception will follow at the church's Parish Hall.
