Lowell, MA native, decorated WWll Vet; 94

VIERA, Florida -- Joseph E. Morvan, 94, of Viera, died on July 15, 2013. Son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Richard) Morvan, husband of the late Jeanine (Sesier) Morvan, father of Paul Morvan of Viera, Florida, the late Susan (Morvan) Nicosia, Linda George and her husband, Lloyd of Barnstable, Massachusetts and Richard Morvan and his wife, Cindy of Seattle, Washington. Joe leaves seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joe was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and was one of seven children. He joined the Army in 1942 when the US entered World War II. His unit, the 610 Tank Destroyer Battalion, was deployed to the European theatre and participated at the Argenten-Falaise Gap and eventually, the Battle of the Bulge. When the war ended, he was part of the occupying force which provided security at the Nuremberg war trials. During his tour of duty, he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. While in Nuremberg, he met and married his wife, Jeanine and they settled back in Lowell to raise their family.

Joe treasured spending time with his family. He would often reminisce about his experiences during the war and also life growing up during the depression. He loved traveling and one of his favorite trips was going back to France for the 50th anniversary of the Normandy invasion.

Joe is laid to rest at the Lothrop Hill Cemetery in Barnstable.
