Joseph John Roderick died peacefully at his home in Brentwood on November 10, 2012, after a long battle with Cancer. Joe was 74.
Joe grew up in Oakland on February 25, 1938; the son of Bertha and Joseph Roderick. He briefly attended Saint Mary's College High School, Berkeley. Joe left school to serve his country in Korea, as an Air Force Munitions Technician. He married Gloria Grillo on January 31, 1960, at Saint Peter Martyr in Pittsburg.
Joe was a hardworking person, who often maintained two to three jobs. Joe earned the respect and friendship of many while working for Avon Refinery for 40 years. He retired as a Plant Supervisor. During his career, Joe was the president of the Employee's Labor Union.
Joe lived in the San Francisco Bay Area his entire life, with residences in Oakland, Pittsburg and Brentwood. He enjoyed Duck hunting, was an avid reader, enjoyed discussing politics and business. He was a lifelong sports fan, following the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco Giants. Joe enjoyed his friends at the Peppermill Casino, Reno, where he earned a reputation as a fantastic Keno player. He often played the California Lottery. Joe was a strong supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Gloria Roderick of Brentwood; Son, Joseph Louis Roderick of Antioch; Daughter, Michelle Marie Brasiel and husband, Robert Brasiel of Pleasant Hill; Granddaughter, Meghan Brasiel and Grandson, Brandon Brasiel; Sister, Betty Fiora of Clearlake Oaks, Brother, Robin Roderick of San Francisco; Brother-in-law, Claude Grillo and wife, Karin Grillo of Walnut Creek; Nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a Private Funeral Service. Joe will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch. Donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Martinez.
