Joseph Venturella Obituary

Joe Venturella, 64, a long-time resident of Monument, Colorado, passed away on March 3, 2015 due to lung cancer. Joe was born in Oil City, PA on March 17, 1950 to Joseph E Venturella and Ann Marie (Strus) Venturella.

Joe left Oil City in 1968 to attend Indiana Univ of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a bachelors in Mathematics in 1972. That same year he enlisted in the US Army and was sent to programming school at Fort Benjamin in Harrison, Indiana and then on to duty stations in Colorado that included ENT AFB, NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain and Peterson AFB. He left the Army in 1975 and spent the rest of his life in Colorado working for various Information Technology companies including Digital Equipment Corp, Hewlett Packard, MCI and Verizon. He retired in 2013. Joe loved to read, play racquetball, follow his beloved Steelers and ride his mountain bike.

Joe is survived by his wife, Wendy, stepsons Matt and Cameron , his forever-glued-to-his-side Chihuahua named Stinky, his older brother Charlie (Gina)of Clymer, PA, his stepsister in Oil City, PA, cousin Karen in Cleveland, OH, and many nieces and nephews. His extended family included over 30 aunts and uncles as well as numerous cousins who were more like brothers and sisters.

There will not be a service at his request. Wendy would like to thank all of Joe's caregivers at Penrose Hospital, Rocky Mountain Cancer Center and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

If desired, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
