We met Joe & Betty in 1986. Jeff rented a room at the Barker House (Manitou Springs)where Joe was the manager, until I sold our home in California. He was one of the first to welcome our newborn, Matthew. Joe's kind and gentle spirit was exemplified in all he said and did. He was a great artist and baker! Our family will miss him very much. P.S. - He had fun wearing a Scottish kilt!!

I first met Joseph when he attended the Grief workshop class I led after the death of his life long companion, his wife. He was a charming man and a wonderful gentleman, with a fine sense of humor. The group went for many lunches and breakfasts together and we all enjoyed Joseph immensely. Joan Hutchison.

To Joe's family,
We are Bill and Mary Vollrath. We knew Joe casually through Pikes Peak Towers. We do not live there, But Mary's mother did until her death in June. We help serve the noon meal on Wednesdays and Joe would come down and sit in the hallway waiting to go out and we struck up a casual aquaintence with him, usually kidding and joking with him. He usually had a good comeback for us. He was a kind, gentle man with the most wonderful white hair. We kidded him when he would don his short pants. I usually wear shorts and would let him know that. We will miss his warm smile and affable personality. Your loss is also our loss. The chair in the hallway at PPT will be empty without Joe waiting there to go out. We are better for having known him and will cherish our memories of him. May God bless and sustain you during this time and for the days to come. Cherish the good memories you have.

I first met your parents while I was the administrator at ViewPointe Retirement Center. Joe and Betty went on many of our trips and participated in the classes and events we offered at ViewPointe. Your parents and I soon became friends, as they were so friendly and outgoing. Joe, especially had a way to make friends easily with his winsome smile. Your father painted a watercolor for me, which I have framed and it is in my home. Your parents were caring, fun, energetic and entertaining individuals. I will miss your father, he was so dear. I know your many memories of him will provide you comfort as you continue life's journey without him. Some how, his smile and enthusiasm for life will come through to each of you in the days ahead. I will miss you Joe!
God bless you Kathy and family.

What a wonderful man, what a great loss. I did not know Uncle Joe very well, but he was always kind and sweet to me. He will be greatly missed.

I'll miss the little things like our Sunday phone calls. Thanks for making me who I am.
