Joshua Basara Obituary

Joshua Nicholas Basara, born July 10, 1983, passed away tragically on Friday, April 1, 2005 as a result of a motorcycle accident, devastating his parents, his family, and his friends. Beloved from babyhood, this delightful imp engaged everyone he met with his smile. As a young boy, Josh spent may hours in the water, either by playing with his cousins in his "Gramma's" pool, or swimming and skiing with his parents in Lake Pueblo. A gifted athlete, he chose to wrestle in high school, taking his talents and enthusiasm to the state meet in Denver. As he grew, this imp became a risk taker whose joy of flying led to an early pilot's license. In college, at the University of Northern Colorado, Josh joined the ROTC, serving his country as a recruiter while carving out a future career. This talented, young person reflected his love of people and nature in his accomplished penciled drawings. Always ready with his radiant smile, Josh's exuberance and joy affected all he met. He leaves behind: an adoring father, Milan Basara, a doting mother and stepfather, Renee and Raymond Ray, a loving sister, McKenna. In addition, his grandparents (Carol and Ben Syler, Jo Ann Revell, and 'Grandpa R'), many aunts and uncles (among them: Rick and Wendy Revell, Kim and George Bolling, and Randy Revell), cousins (Matt, Chris and Dan Bolling, Jenna and Amanda Revell) and his many friends will bask in his smile as they celebrate the times they shared with him. A celebration of Joshua's life will be at 1:00 in Gunnison, Colorado at the Bethany Baptist Church. The family will accept donations to be put towards future aviator scholarships where Josh attended flight school. We will miss you, Josh. Our lives will never be the same.

Our family is deeply sorry for ths loss of Josh. Although we did not get the opportunity to know Josh that well, we hold our memories of him during the times we did. He had a great smile and personality. Vacationing with the Revell family when I was younger was always such a joy and we always have had a close bond even though we don't see each other often. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful family circle. We love you and know that Josh's memory will be close to our hearts.

Josh was my first grandchild and only grandson. The firstborn of my firstborn, Renee. He was so very special. I pray that all grandmothers will experience the love and relationship with their grandchildren that I have experienced with Josh. When he was six months old, Josh and I had a day together driving from Colorado Springs to Denver, as I took him to have his six month picture taken at a friends studio. It was a real special time with him when he was a baby. Then I moved away, he grew up but we kept in contact by visits and phone calls. He would call Rob and myself regularly just to say "Hi" and "I love you guys". The last time he was out to visit us we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain. While his mom and stepdad, Renee and Ramon, and his sister McKenna, and Rob all went on a ride, Josh and his girlfriend Hannah and myself went walking around. He held Hannah's hand in one hand and mine in the other as we walked along. Some boys were walking towards us and one of them hit me in the arm. Josh asked me if that kid hit me and I said yes. He wanted to go and beat that kid up because he said "No one hits my grandma". I told him "No, just ignore them as you never know if it is a gang or not and I don't want anything to happen to my dear grandson." Relunctantly he agreed, but I thought how many grandson's would walk around in public holding their grandma's hand. He was really a special young man and so loving to everyone he knew. Josh, I will miss you and your beautiful smile and all the phone calls and great conversations we shared so often. We will meet again one day in heaven. So long Josh, I love you.
