Sgt. Joshua James Rimer obituary

Joshua Rimer Obituary

Joshua died the morning of July 22, 2009 in Afghanistan proudly serving his country. He was born April 18, 1985 in Beaver, PA to James H. and Donna J. Rimer. He graduated from Freedom Area High School in 2003. He had been in the Marching and Concert Bands where he played the Trumpet. He was also in the Drama Club and had many lead roles in the plays. Josh loved sports and played them well, Soccer and Baseball being his favorites. He attended New Sewickley Presbyterian Church and was very active in the Youth Ministry there. Josh enlisted in the Army after graduating High School in August 2003. He went to Ft. Leonardwood, MO for his Basic Training exercise, graduating November 2003. His first assignment was to serve in Bamberg, Germany, January 2004. He was then deployed to Iraq in February 2004 for 13 months where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned to Germany to complete his tour as a Colonel's driver until August 2006. Upon his reenlistment he was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO and was promoted to Sgt. October 2008. He was then redeployed to Iraq in February 2009.. On his birthday he was moved to Afghanistan. There he worked in construction of the Military Installation of their Base. Josh volunteered to run clearance with the PSD. There, he gave the ultimate sacrifice and was awarded another Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a TRUE HERO! Josh married his beautiful wife, Annalisa, in September 2007. They loved life together and were best friends and partners. They loved to take long rides through the mountains, especially if it were snowing. He enjoyed hiking, biking, walking, rock climbing, and loved to swim and Jet Ski. His plans were to buy a Harley Davidson upon his return home so he and Annalisa could ride together. Josh always appreciated and respected life. He felt content and appreciated at work and this meant a lot to him. He was a Very Proud Soldier, Husband, Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew and Cousin. He was very much Loved and will be very much missed! He will Never be Forgotten, but Always Missed and will remain in our hearts Forever! We Love You, Josh!

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rimer Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

I would like to take a few minutes to express my gratitude to Joshua for his service to the citizens of our country. My father-in-law recently passed away after battling lung cancer. He was a veteran of Vietnam. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as well as those of all of our troops.

Father we entrust our brother Joshua to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Joshua in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

All who serve are special people and Engineers are an even more special group - generally the unsung heroes as they go about their essential work, happy to be doing what they know and love. Joshua Rimer's happy face in the photo that accompanies this memorial page says a great deal about him, and I can only feel for his family and all who love him as they move forward without his presence. It is important that we acknowledge his sacrifice, but we must also make sure that we see his life, short though it may have been, as a positive influence and a blessing. God bless you Spc Joshua Rimer, and our good wishes to your family.
From our Engineer family to yours - respectfully, Kim and Jim Straker (Royal Australian Engineers, Viet Nam 1968/69)

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Spc. Rimer and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Spc. Rimer has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Spc. Rimer, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Spc. Rimer was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid, they have earned our undying gratitude. America will never, ever forget their sacrifices."

Spc. Rimer the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall forever wave in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

Dear Annie, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband and I would have been at the service had I known. I didn't find out until the later part of August and was totally devastated. The short time I knew him was enough to know that he was a great guy and he made me feel real comfortable when I attended your graduation party. I can't find words to make you feel better at this time Annie, but I guess we can consider ourselves blessed to have had him in our lives even though the time was so short. my heart goes out to you and his family.

To the Family of Sgt Joshua Rimer, I know there are no words to comfort you in this painful time. All I can say is that my son is in Afghanistan with the 4th Eng. Bn. and I pray for all the heroes who are serving our country every single day. I wish there was something I could do for you, but I suppose about all I can do is pray for you. God Bless all of you, and I'm sure he's holding Joshua in His arms.

Annalisa,
My husband Joshua surved proudly next to your husband each day. When my Joshua would call me I could hear your Joshua singing to him in the background. They were comic relief for eachother. My Joshua would always say that your Joshua would ask about me and our soon to be baby and was very excited for our family. I never met your husband but I know he was a good, good man. He made people around him feel good and he uplifted their spirits.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To the Rimer Family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. Joshua shall never be forgotten.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

Every second you sacrificed
I hold you in my prayers.
So with one hand on my heart and the other in the air;

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you.

To the familiy of SGT Joshua Rimer, I knew SGT Rimer when I first arrive to the 4th Engineer Battalion in February 2007 and he was indeed a motivated soldier and an awesome person in the S3 Shop. He was a dear friend to me and he will always be missed deeply and not just for giving his life for his country but also because of the person he was to everyone that came in contact with him on a daily basis. He was the type of person that could and would bring a smile to anyone on their most bad days; he always knew exactly what to say or do whether it was to crack a joke or show that big smile of his. I know that this is a sad moment for you all but this too is a joyous moment because Joshua is now in a better place and will be watching over all of you forever. So as you all mourn for Joshua know that he is very well taken care of and is now in a position where he can take care of you all.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms Spc. Joshua Rimer. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Joshua. And to Joshua it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Joshua, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joshua’s family and loved ones.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

"To the family of Joshua Rimer, I am very thankful for the opportunity to have met Joshua and serve with him. I had the opportunity to play softball with him and become his friend over the past couple years. Josh always had a way to make you laugh even if you were in a bad mood or things were not going so well. He always had a smile that was like no other. My heart goes out to his family for their loss. Joshua always worked hard, played hard, and was always a true friend. His ability to do everything well was almost uncanny to us all; it made everyone around him better at what they did. Joshua Rimer is a hero, in every sense of the word.......
