Joy Allard Cloud Obituary

Joy Garnholz Allard Cloud, 76, of Colorado Springs, died on Sunday night after a year- long battle with cancer. She was born to the late Edward and Marcella Garnholz on December 30th 1933, in St. Louis, MO. Joy graduated from Maplewood High School in 1951. Joy married Robert Irwin Allard of Florida in 1965 and they made their home in Red Rock Ranch, Monument, Colorado. In 1986 Joy was widowed and in 1988 she was remarried to Colonel Howard H. Cloud Jr, USAF Retired. They made their home at Spring Lake in Colorado Springs, CO. Howard passed away in August of 2004. Joy loved to travel and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for both friends and family. She was the daughter of a baker and her family owned a popular bakery in St. Louis. That foundation gave Joy an unmistakable talent in the kitchen. Unlike her parents, her specialties were savory dishes. She leaves behind a legacy of great food. She adored a good meal and made friends with chef's in every city she visited often gleaning a new recipe here and there. She won the Colorado State Beef Cook-off in 1985. Joy was a leader for many charitable events. She organized a Buffalo BBQ in Monument to fund a new ambulance, she was President of the Woodmoor Women's Association, she ran the Monument annual Antique Show for several years, and she organized a community Bi-Centennial event for the whole Tri-Lakes area. Joy was an avid crossword puzzler and did one every morning…in pen! She took great pride in her appearance and did her exercises even while in her hospice bed. Her friends adored her and she them. She could often be found sitting in her kitchen with a coffee cup in one hand and the telephone receiver in another chatting with a friend on the line. Joy is survived by two children: Tina Allard Spiek , of Flower Mound, TX and Lt Col Bob Allard (wife, Shannon) stationed at LA AFB, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren that she adored and spent much time with: Andie, Emily, Erin, Max and Katie. She also had 5 step-children from her marriage to Howard: Diane Sloan (Wichita, KS), Paula Fling (Colorado Springs, CO), Howard Cloud, Jr. (Dallas, TX), Lewis Cloud (Albuquerque, NM) and Carol Ann Klingsmith (Denver, CO). To all who knew her, she had a sense of humor that lived up to her name. She was a joy to us all and she will be greatly missed. Cancer succeeded in taking her life, but its' affects are limited: it cannot cripple Love, shatter Hope, corrode Faith, destroy Peace, kill Friendship, suppress Memories, silence Courage, invade the Soul, steal eternal Life or conquer the Spirit. Joy's spirit lives on. It was Joy's wish that her friends and family would gather to celebrate her life. A memorial gathering will be held at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, 3225 Broadmoor Valley Road, on May 1, 2010 at 1pm. Her ashes will be scattered by the family in a special spot that she had chosen. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Rocky Mountain PBS.

Joy came into our lives later in life when she married Howard Cloud. They enjoyed great times and travels together and I will always be thankful for the wonderful care she took of Dad. Joy, your spirit will always be remembered. love Dianne
