Joyce Blythe Obituary

Joyce was the second child born to homesteaders Ernest L. and Ruby E. (Allen) Richardson in Casper, WY. She attended Natrona County High School in Casper until the end of her senior year; the family moved to Minatare, NE, where she graduated from Minatare High School. Following graduation, Joyce completed a welding course through the National Youth Association in Casper and was sent to Seattle, WA, where she took, and passed, the Associated Shipyard Test. She married Jim Blythe of Casper, WY, in Auburn, WA while he was stationed at Ft. Lewis. First daughter Cheryl was born in Olympia, WA. During Jim's deployment to the Philippines, Joyce and Cheryl lived in Torrington, WY, helping her parents operate their motel and public swimming pool. Following WWII, the family relocated to Casper where their youngest daughter Tonya was born. Following a brief move to Lewiston, MT, they returned to Torrington, where she was employed at the local hospital. Jim's employment necessitated another move to Scottsbluff, NE, and then Gering, NE, where Joyce entered the dental field. She became a Certified Dental Assistant and upon a move to Colorado Springs, introduced the Certification Program to the dental assistants in Colorado Springs. She worked for dentists in Colorado Springs and at the USAFA. She taught dental assisting at Pikes Peak Community College for 10 yearsprior to her retirement. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, daughter Tonya L. Blythe, and grandson Scotty Alan Reitz. She is survived by daughter Cheryl Seals (Ken) of Colorado Springs, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce requested that no services be held. Donations to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region are welcomed.

Joyce meant so much to our Family. She was such a loving & funny lady. We truely were blessed to have her in our lives for 19 yrs. Joyce was such a wonderful neighbor! We know that she is so happy to be with Jesus.
