Joyce Reiland Obituary

Joyce Marie Raitz Reiland, 51, died on October 3, 2007. She was born August 14, 1956, in Denver, Colorado, to Tony and Lou Raitz. She is survived by the light of her life, her son, Thomas Christopher Reiland; her parents; her brothers Glenn, Allan, B.J. and Brett (Jerri); four nieces and one nephew; and many friends and extended family members who will miss her free spirit. Joyce graduated from Wasson High School in 1974 and attended Pikes Peak Community College. She was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for nearly 12 years and extended a hand of hope and grace to many women and their families. Our "Happy Joyce" loved children and animals, the mountains, sports, playing a good game of cards, angels, and socks. She lived life large, fought the good fight, and is too well loved to ever be forgotten. A service to honor Joyce's memory and to celebrate her life will be held at noon on Monday, October 8, at First Friends Church, 2748 E. Pikes Peak Ave. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce's name can be made to the AA Service Office, 701 S. Cascade Ave., 80903, or to First Friends Church.

I'm very late to this message board. I met Joyce during a yearlong service project in Colorado Springs in 2001-02. Recently, I started going through a box of memories after our basement flooded, and found a couple of cards Joyce gave me - I decided to look her up to see if I could friend her on social media. I rarely do this, which speaks to the impact Joyce left on me. She had so much positive energy, shared openly about her life experiences, and, although she was several years older than me, treated me as an equal. I am sorry to hear of her passing, and send my very-belated condolences to her family and friends.

Sending my sincere, heartfelt condolences for your loss. Joyce was definitely a "free spirit" and an inspiration to those she knew in her life. I remember her passion and pride in her AA journey. Her smile and hugs were like a warm blanket that would just encompass you. She will be missed.

I hadn't seen Joyce for quite some time. I went to school with Brett. I lost my brother this summer, and I do know how much the Raitz is suffering, you are all in my thoughts and prayers
