Juan Ortiz Obituary

March 28, 1923 - September 15, 2008 Retired Master Sergeant U.S.A.F. Juan (John) M. Ortiz passed away in Colorado Springs, CO at a local hospice on September 15, 2008 at the age of 85 after a long illness. John was born in Holtville, California on March 28, 1923 and later grew up in Long Beach, California. His military career began in 1943. He was stationed in England and then at Poix, France. John was a radio operator on the B52 and B29 bombers during the liberation of France during WWII. While he was stationed in France he met his loving and devoting wife, Leone. Together they had two children, Yoland and John, and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. He also served in Vietnam for one year. John retired in Colorado Springs after serving in the U.S.A.F. for 31 years. As a civilian he worked at NORAD as an engineer with Ford Aerospace for 10 years. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved computers and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren a few things. Or was it the other way around? He loved his wife and family dearly. He enjoyed taking his wife back to France every summer so that they could visit relatives and special places that meant a lot to both. John is survived by his devoted wife, Leone, his daughter, Yoland Abramson and her husband David, his son, John Ortiz, his step-daughter, Jeanine LaFlandre and her husband Gilles along with their children and grandchildren, his grandchildren, Eric Ringler (Laura), Ian Ringler and his wife Karen, Stephanie Bloesser and her husband Carl, John Ortiz and his wife Laura and Amanda Abramson, his great-grandchildren, Shawn and Ashley Ringler, Savanah and Carl Bloesser, Angie and Maise Ortiz. He was preceded in death by three brothers and is survived by two sisters, Mary and Connie, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held between 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18th at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19th at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road.

Uncle Johnny, you will be truly be missed by all those who loved you, including all of us from San Diego. Your legacy and the good times we all had out here when you came to visit.. Our blessings and prayers to your family, and may they find the strength, the courage and the faith to go forward with life and remember that we still exist.
