Juanita Connelly Obituary

August 13, 1931 - August 2, 2008 Juanita Connelly was born in Horton, Kansas in 1931 to Berniece and Ernest Cornell and passed away peacefully on August 2, 2008 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ernie and her beloved husband Joseph. She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris & Bill Latimer and Christine & Vernon Green, her son and daughter-in-law, Carl & Cheryl Hunsaker, her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy & JJ Halsey, her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Scott Kaiser and her grandchildren, Kelly & Sean Halsey, and Nathaniel & David Kaiser. She is also survived by her many friends in Illinois, Kansas, Lafayette & Colorado Springs, Colorado. After retiring from many years as a secretary, she was finally able to let loose the artist within. She created beautiful jewelry, sand paintings, clay sculptures and marquetry. She shared her art with family, friends and people around the world. She loved Christmas and decorated with hundreds of Santas and nutcrackers collected throughout the years. Juanita and Joe loved to entertain and hosted many open houses for their friends. She volunteered with the elderly and collected toys for Native American children. She was active in the Lafayette community. In 2005, she and Joe participated in the Lafayette Citizen's Fire Academy and Juanita climbed to the top of a 75 foot ladder on top of a fire truck. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, as we were of her. Her laughter and kindness will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Wynwood Assisted Living, 2780 Vickers Drive in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to either One Nation Walking Together, onenationwt.org, a group that provides supplies to Native American reservations, or Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
