Judith Elaine Cole
February 6, 1940
July 16, 2023

On July 16, 2023, Judith Elaine Riley Cole went to be with her Lord and Savior.
Judy was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Madeline Guzzardo Riley and
Grady Riley. She went to Collins Garden Elementary School and graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1957 where she was Lt. Colonel of the Orange Jackets. She attended SAC Junior College and then worked at USAA. In 1959, Judy met and married one of those "Fly Boys" who went to Church to meet girls and get good food. She married Julian Wayne "Perry" Cole and began life as an Air Force wife.
By 1968, she and Perry had two sons. Jeff and Jarrett. Both boys had special needs. Judy became the
"Super Mom" that one must be for children with disabilities. She became an advocate, not only for her children, but others as well. When it was discovered that her sons had Fragile X Syndrome, she worked with the Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado to determine the best avenues to take for her boys. Then she helped set up conferences and seminars to inform and help other families with the same problems. She counseled young mothers who needed help dealing with a child with Fragile X. Judy lived a life of service. Service to her family, extended family and those suffering with special needs.
She and her family spent most of their lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado where Perry retired from teaching at the Air Force Academy. After Perry passed Judy and Jeff moved in 2015 to live near her sisters Barbara and Marilyn in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Perry and her son Jarrett. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Paul Cole. She is also survived by her sisters: Barbara Riley Dover Grimmer and husband, Jack; Marilyn Riley Schulz, Marsha Riley Crumley and husband, Ron; Elaine Riley Hazeldine, husband, Eric; also numerous nephews and nieces and many loving family and friends.
There will be a memorial service at Schaetter's Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, Texas at 10:00 on
July 20, 2023.
There will also be a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Co on July 26, 2023
at 11:00 a.m.

Ginger I'm sorry it's so late in getting you this but it has just been a crazy day for me and if you aren't able to
Judy Cole was one of the kindest and sweetest souls. She was also a determined advocate for both her sons, and all others she met who were living with Fragile X Syndrome. When my son Alex was diagnosed with Fragile X in 1991, Judy was the first parent I met that also had children with Fragile X. She took me under her wing in many ways in those early years. She shared her experiences as a mother and advocate. She and I organized and hosted a small, local conference in Colorado Springs for other families and caregivers of loved ones affected by Fragile X in the early 1990's. She encouraged me to dive in and learn everything that I possibly could and become the best advocate for my own son. She was a true blessing, an angel that I was so fortunate to cross paths with. She will always be remembered with gratefulness, and love.

Judy was a true advocate for FXS. She lived a wonderful life of service and I admired her for her love of others. She earned Christ´s blessing, "well done, good and faithful servant"

There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to Judy. She has been a fighter, an inspiration, an educator and a friend

Judy has been an inspiration, devoting time, energy and money to help others in the Fragile X community. She contributed to my first Fragile X conference when Ryan was 5. The conference was life changing for me. I did not know Judy at the time but her involvement with Fragile X and supporting parents was immeasurable.

Judy was my friend, she was kind, thoughtful and giving.

She will be remembered forever and those families who have children with Fragile X will never know the impact she has had on their lives.

I am so sorry for Judy´s family and so very sorry for her son, Jeff.

Judy was a remarkable woman who donated her time, energy, love, and knowledge to people and mothers of children with special needs. I knew Judy for a long time and had the opportunity to work with her son. Judy´s smile, kindness, and passion will be missed. She was definitely a kindred spirit.

Rest in peace,
