He received several prestigious awards including the Legion of Merit. He retired in 1975 at Tyndall AFB, Florida and the family moved to Canon City. Woody was employed with Metropolitan Life in Canon City and Colorado Springs, receiving many honors for achievement in sales and sales management. Woody was a devoted and loving husband to Phoebe (Cowen) Wood for 44 years. She survives. They are the parents of one daughter, Gwenith J. McKee (Tom), Hudson, FL; and three sons, Mark E. Wood (Kathy), Colorado Springs; David L. Westerman, Paonia, Co and Richard H. Woody is one of those men in your life who serves as an example of everything that is good about being a husband, father, friend, military man, and co-worker. I worked with Woody at MetLife. The first person we wanted a new recruit to visit with was Woody; he exuded the kind of integrity and thoughtfulness that a person needs to succeed.

Phoebe, I am so sorry you and the kids lost your "ROCK"! Woody will always have a special place in my heart. I wish I could be with you in Canon City.

You have been a true inspiration in my life.....the yardstick against which I measured success and failure. I have treasured our time together and will cherish the memories from my childhood on to adulthood. Thanks for being such a role model and "hero at home".

Love, Mark
