Julie Lyons-Careaga Obituary

Many words describe our loving sister, wife, daughter and friend. Julie was always up for a new adventure, she loved to travel and discover new “favorite places. She could light up any casino or cruise ship. Her heart loved to laugh and have fun. She enjoyed snuggling with her kitties, working in her flower garden and dancing to the oldies. Julie’s was a life that ended much too soon. She had dreams that were not yet realized, friends she had not yet met and places she had not yet visited. She longed to lounge on a Florida beach, see a Broadway play and return to Vegas for an Elvis sing-a-long! We will miss her zest for life, her silly sense of humor and her hearty laugh. Julie was born March 23, 1961 to Jack and Dorothy Lyons, who preceded her in death. She was the youngest of four daughters. Julie lived her entire life celebrating the fact that she was a proud Colorado Springs native. On June 4th, 2000, Julie married the love of her life, Johnny Careaga in Las Vegas, Nevada. They celebrated their life together with many happy occasions at Mom and Dad Lyons’ house. Also present were sisters, Jan Lyons-Lamb and her children Jim, Jason and Jessi, Becky Lyons and her beloved dogs and Patti Gasco and her children Ben and Amanda. Julie worked as a manager of various restaurants. She was a bookkeeper at a pet store and managed accounts for Ray Allen for many years. Her favorite pastimes were seeing friends at Cripple Creek, frequenting the hot springs in Glenwood Springs and visiting John’s relatives in California. Her travels ended far too soon on April 9th, 2009. We will miss her crazy stories and her wonderful laugh. The happy memories of Julie and her adventures, hopes and dreams will be treasured for years to come. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Pet Rescue of your choice. The time and place of our “Celebration of Julie’s Life will be Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. - Contact the Lyons-Careaga family for the location.

Julie came into the bank I worked at nearly every day where I would take her into her safety deposit box. I always looked forward to Julie coming in so we could swap stories and gripe about our bosses. She was a wonderful person and could always make me laugh. I will miss her.

I always enjoyed seeing Julie and John together when they shopped at Safeway when I worked there. Their love for each other created a soft glow. May God provide support and comfort in this very sad time.

I give my condolences to you and your family. I'm Jessi's friend and everytime I would see Julie she was very nice and easy to talk to. We have great memories with Julie....lots of lunches and good times. If you all need anything I'm here for all of you.

I send my deepest sympathies to my beloved cousins Jan, Becky and Patti as well as to all their children and extended families. Julie Kay has set sail, embarking on her greatest adventure and quest for new
'favorite' places of her ongoing life. Those of us that loved her, will wait on distant shores until land and sea separate us no more.

Until then, to each of us and to all of us:
"May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your
fields, and, until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
-Celtic Blessing
