JUNE ELIZABETH SUSONG MOORE
June 15, 1934
June Elizabeth Susong Moore was born and raised outside Greeneville, Tennessee, to Nicholas Anderson Susong and Ruby (Drayne) Susong on June 15, 1934. June graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Nursing in Memphis, where she met the man who would be her husband for 60 years, Dr. Gene H. Moore. After nursing school, she spent a year working as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. June was the epitome of the glamorous 1950's stewardess, sporting high heels, white gloves, and a tailored wool suit. A long-distance marriage proposal from Gene Moore ended her flying career. The young couple soon moved to Denver, where June did graduate studies at the University of Colorado, worked for the VA, and taught psychiatric nursing. In 1963 she became a full-time mother and wife. After a few years in Dallas, TX and Palm Springs, CA, where her second child was born, she moved to Colorado Springs with her husband and their two young children.
June spent much of the next 50 years raising her children, caring for friends and neighbors, and working with volunteer organizations in Colorado Springs. She was a docent and a member of the Board of Directors at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, chairman of the Colorado Springs Debutante Ball Committee and an active leader of the Garden Club of America. She also chaired an annual garden tour for the Garden Conservancy.
She is survived by her husband, Gene H. Moore, M.D., and their two children, G. Kurt Moore, Ph.D., of Denver, CO, his children, Alix and Ana, and J. Kristen Moore Beckman (Richard) of Greenwich, CT, and her son, Ian A. Beckman. June is also survived by one brother, Henry Tilson Susong (Nancy) and one sister, Mary Francis Longmire and many nieces and nephews.
June will be remembered as a beloved wife, excellent mother, devoted friend and esteemed community member. Per her request, there will be no formal memorial service, but she would be pleased if you took that time to help someone who is suffering, hug your loved ones and appreciate nature.
