June Shrader Obituary
June (Self) Shrader age 69, passed away on May 17, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's' Disease. June was born at Nichols Field in the Philippines, to a career Army medical officer. The Selfs were reassigned to Camp Carson in 1951. June graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California, with honors, in 1959. In her senior year at Mills, June met Glenn Shrader, a career Naval officer. The wardroom of Glenn's destroyer was invited to Mills' Spring Fling, which he was coaxed into attending by a fellow junior officer. June was trying to figure a way to get the filled punchbowl into the dance hall when Glenn walked by and offered to help. They were married six months later. June remained a faithful and devoted member of that branch of the U.S. Military that has one of the toughest and least recognized duty assignments - the military wife. June served her beloved country with selflessness, with courage, and with pride. In her second career, June was a highly skilled Information Technology professional, rising to the level of Senior Systems Analyst of the Federal Reserve Bank in Baltimore, Maryland, where her small team developed the check processing software used by the FRB system nationwide. June is survived by her husband Glenn, her three children Glenn Charles, David Michael, and Dawn Michele, two grandchildren Jonah and Sarah, her sister Joan Beringer and her brother Bob Self. Her family was at her bedside and filled the room with prayers and loving embraces, and wishes to send her in rest and peace to the loving care of our Lord and her waiting parents. June is once again on a mission she fulfilled meritoriously dozens of times throughout her life. She has gone ahead to prepare for her family a warm and loving home, and is waiting there now to one day welcome us. This thought gives her family great comfort. We would like to offer deep thanks to all of her family, friend and neighbors who visited with June in her final hours and shared warm memories and loving thoughts. We would like to extend our most heartfelt appreciation and deepest thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Brighton Gardens and Odyssey Hospice who welcomed June and treated her with the greatest care and respect, for through the arduous months they too became members of our family. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Soldier's Memorial Chapel at Fort Carson. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2315 Bott Ave., Colorado Springs, CO., 80904-3727
