Justin Jones Obituary

April 18, 1988 - February 5, 2009 J.D. was born 9 weeks premature on April 18, 1988, in Chicago Illinois. Two years later he was diagnosed with a life-long disabling condition known as Cerebral Palsy. This occurred due to a lack of oxygen to his brain. He did the majority of his growing up in Fountain, Colorado. He attended the Fountain Fort Carson school system and graduated from High School on May 24, 2008. This was one of the proudest accomplishments during his shortened life. He made many friends and touched many hearts with his strength and courage demonstrated each day from the seat of his wheelchair. His smile was the tool he used to captivate his audience. He could make you forget about your own troubles for a while just by smiling at you. He had two passions in life. The first was the socialization aspect of attending school. His second passion was attending and watching sporting events with his family. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Colorado Rockies, and Denver Nuggets. He is survived by his parents, Stacen and Vivian Jones; his brother, Dustin Jones; his grandparents, Venancio and Irene Gagaza and Kathy Hannah; and his many Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11th at the Shrine of Remembrance. Visitation will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Cremation is planned and inurnment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in J.D.'s memory to Nursing and Therapy Services of Colorado (NTSOC) 7222 Commerce Center Drive, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, CO 80919 or to Special Kids-Special Families (SKSF-ICAN) 424 West Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905.

I was blessed to be a part of J.D.'s life. Although I never had J.D. in class, I still feel like he was one of my "students" at both FMS and FFCHS. I would make a special effort to "find" J.D. in the building just so I could bask in that smile of his. We had a great relationship "in the halls," and I sincerely feel that he brought more to me each day with his positive attitude than I could have ever done for him; he was one special little dude, and I will always cherish the laughs we shared.

Dear Vivian, Stacen, Dustin and all the other family and friends of J.D.,

I just wanted to express many sympathy for your tremendous loss.
I truly enjoyed watching and working with J.D. as he grew up from coming into the district as a sweet, little kindergartener and then maturing into a kind, young man. J.D.'s delightful and warm smile will live on in my heart always! My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Darlene McElroy

I know that you do not know me but I am very close friends with Teresa Wagner and her children. I want to express my sincere sympathy to your family and let you know that you are all in my prayers as "J.D." has earned his wings.
My son, Denver, was born 10 1/2 weeks premature and also has cerebral palsy. The light these children bring into this world - no matter how brief - is so amazing. Be blessed in knowing that your son is longer in pain and he has a new body without wheels as my son would say and is running around in Heaven, he will be there waiting when it is your time, but don't hurry, he will wait. Again my thoughts, prayers and love are with you all.

My daugher, Melana, helped J.D. with his Dynavox computer, when she was in High School. She has fond memories of J.D. and his fun personality. She is sad at his loss.

I was a friend of JD's for a short time while he was at ICAN. It was always a delight to see him arrive in the mornings with a big smile that just brighten our day. It was a blessing to have known him. My prayers to the family during this time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost a child, Katie Beth, who suffered with cerebral palsy. She was born in January of 1988 and lived 15 years. I write also to invite you, when you feel up to it to look into a mom's group that I lead with another friend: http://www.mg2moms.org/
