Karen Craig Obituary

Karen Eileen (Fahrney) Craig, 50, of Tilghman, Maryland died March 22, 2007. Karen was born in Arlington, VA to Col. John Fahrney and Joan Fahrney. Growing up in an Air Force family Karen lived in Virginia, Colorado, Germany, Alabama, Hawaii and Maryland. Karen had an eye for art and loved nature. She especially appreciated the beauty of the Colorado Rockies, the beaches and mountains of Hawaii and not far from her doorstep, the Chesapeake Bay. Karen was instrumental in preserving the Black Walnut Area of the Island and ensuring it would be protected from erosion. Karen attended Air Academy HS, later earning her Masters Degree in Social Work. She married her high school sweetheart, Kevin Craig, and they made Tilghman their home. Karen dedicated herself to working in the mental health field for over 20 years. She attained the position of Executive Director for a Channel Marker. The joy of Karen's life was her family. She was quick to share her pride in both of her sons. Karen always had a gentle soul, a kind heart, and much compassion for others. She lovingly helped care for her mother during a long illness and was predeceased by her mother in 2004. Karen is survived by her husband of more than 20 yrs., Kevin Craig, and their two sons Nicholas Craig (17) and Alex Craig(13) of Tilghman Island: her father John Fahrney, living in Wheat Ridge Colorado; mother and father-in-law Nona & Don Craig of Tilghman Island; brother Keith Fahrney and his wife Mye, living in Laos; Sisters Cheryl Fahrney and Lauren Schedell, of Colo. Springs, and Janice Kelble and her husband Ken, living in Franklin, NH: and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
