Karla Olsen Obituary

Karla Vogeler Olsen passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011 in Colorado Springs of complications from congestive heart failure. She was born in Zilly, Germany on June 7, 1926 to Wilhelm and Else Vogeler. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1929 and was raised in Calumet, Michigan. In 1948 she married David Olsen, who preceded her in death. She and her family moved to Colorado Springs in 1958, settling in Woodmen Valley. Karla was one of four children, and is survived by her sister, Annagret Trudell and husband Ron. Also surviving are Karla's children Karen Olsen, David (Sparky) Olsen and wife Shelley, Tom Olsen and wife Kathy, and Robin Henzler and her husband Neal. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and innumerable friends. Karla was a homemaker focused on her family, her church, and friendship to all who knew her. A long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, she enjoyed many aspects of church life along with a passion for playing bridge, volunteering, and taking care of her extended family. Her numerous volunteer activities included her church, the El Paso County Health Department, and the Pikes Peak Library District. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 420 North Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 24. Karla loved flowers, but encouraged that memorial contributions in her honor be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

How well I remember the happy days spent in Woodmen Valley with great people like Karla Olson and her family. In later years Karla spent time visiting my sister, Doris Lee, in the nursing home and that meant so much to all the Lee and Gould families. May you all find peace at this time is my wish for Karla's family. Arlys Gould Ferris
