Katherine Ritchey McComb ("Kathie"), beloved mother and friend, died suddenly and unexpectedly on March 20, 2022. Kathie was 83 years old. She was at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Born December 21, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, Kathie lived in Colorado Springs since 1978. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert J. Ritchey and Marion Rand Ritchey, and her brother, Bob Ritchey. Kathie graduated in 1960 with a biology degree from Lindenwood College in St. Charles Missouri. She worked more than 40 years as a Medical Technologist and Phlebotomist.
Kathie is survived by her three sons, Mark, Michael, and Neil. She was an incredible mother, and frequently said there was nothing she loved more in her life than being a mom. Kathie is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda, Matthew, Emma, and Jessica. Kathie loved sports and was an avid tennis player. She passionately followed football. Her home team was the Denver Broncos. Kathie was also preceded in death by her beloved beagle, Kasey K.
Everyone who knew Kathie describe her as a loving, caring, gracious, and compassionate soul. In the final years of her life, she exemplified the power of gratitude and hope, with an unwavering faith in God. Although she faced several medical setbacks, Kathie courageously fought through recovery and remained strong and resilient. She continually made new friendships and was a pillar of strength within her community of friends and family. Friends at her assisted care facility said she arrived in a cocoon, but blossomed into a beautiful butterfly when she discovered how much she had to offer the new friends at her home.
We are honoring Kathie with a memorial gathering of friends. Her ashes will be placed with her father, mother, and brother in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Kathie inspired us all to understand how to overcome adversity and the joy of helping others.
