Kathleen Horrigan Hybl

Surrounded by her loving family, Kathleen (Kathy) Marie Horrigan Hybl returned home to her heavenly father on August 1, 2023.
Kathy was born January 31, 1945, to Joseph and Mary Horrigan of Seattle, Washington. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona with her older sister Patty and younger brother Mike. She attended Xavier High School where she was active in tennis and riding, skills she honed at the family KI-HE-KAH ranch in Patagonia, Arizona, and where she met her 'Xavier girls" who proved to be lifelong friends. After graduation from high school, she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where she met her future husband and the love of her life, Bill Hybl. Bill and Kathy were married June 6, 1967.
Throughout their 56 years of marriage, Kathy was her husband's greatest confidante, advisor, supporter, and advocate. They traveled to over 40 countries and 14 Olympic games together. She was the rock-solid force behind Bill's many state, national, and international leadership roles, serving by his side with incredible inquisitiveness, incomparable style, and a tremendous sense of humor. After Bill's brief time in the Army, which found Kathy giving birth to her oldest son in Ethiopia, Bill and Kathy returned home to make a life for themselves and their family in Colorado Springs. She devoted her time to several organizations including Pikes Peak Community Foundation, Ecumenical Social Ministries, The Broadmoor Garden Club, Pauline Chapel Committee and Junior League. She developed incredible friendships, cultivated by FAC's, shopping excursions, golf, tennis and ski groups, and girls' trips. For the past twenty years, Kathy and Bill expanded their circle of friends and activities at Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, CA. Kathy especially loved annual holiday visits with her sister Patty, brother-in-law Hal, her nephew Steven and nieces Debbie and Lori. But most importantly, she devoted her life to raising her two sons, B.J. and Kyle, instilling in them a devotion to faith, a strong work ethic, and an unending zest for life.
Kathy was a loving, playful, and mischievous Omi to her six grandchildren, which proved to be one of her greatest life joys. The grandkids relished her pranks and general troublemaking. Whether it was impromptu water gun fights, scary Halloween shenanigans, or introducing them to the great "Bird Enthusiast Society," Omi was the leader of the pack, and her grandchildren cherished every minute of their time with her. The most accomplished participant, Kathy was always ready to test their skills on the golf course, tennis court, ski slope, exercise class, or domino table. Her gift to them was a lifetime of memories, captured in her many photos which have been generously shared with family and friends in recent years.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Horrigan, and her brother, Mike Horrigan. Her legacy lives on through her children B.J. Hybl (Kristel), Kyle Hybl (Sally), and her grandchildren, Logan, Jack, Mallory, Liam, Emma, and Aidan.
The family is grateful for the outstanding care provided by the professional and compassionate people of UCHealth Memorial Hospital as well as Dr. Anita Lane and Dr. Sheeda Heidarian. They are also very grateful for the companionship and support of Keri Herling and Stephanie Olsen.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 3:00 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. A life celebration will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity with special meaning to you and your family in her honor.
