KATHLEEN "KATHY" ANN SHELTON
October 6, 1953 January 25, 2019
Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Shelton, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs and Black Forest, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 25, 2019. She was 65 years old. Kathy was born in Colorado Springs on October 6, 1953 to Lionel E. Montoya Sr. and Florence (Chavez) Montoya.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Gary Woolsey.
She is survived by her sons, Micah (Devri) Shelton of Fort Collins, Brandon Shelton of Colorado Springs and daughter Karrie (Dave) Burk of Montgomery, Minnesota. She had 8 grandchildren, Jaden, Ilianna, Lexi, Silas, Brali and Emery Shelton, Austin and Brooklyn Burk. She is survived by her sisters, Diana Montoya of Colorado Springs, Netti (Jeff) Wild, of Westminster, and a brother Lionel E. Montoya Jr. (Laura), of Black Forest, along with her beloved close knit extended family.
Kathy was a Vice President at Columbia Savings for many years, a mortgage loan officer and over the past few years enjoyed working for her friend, Dianna Tolbert at Platte Floral in Colorado Springs.
Kathy was a marvelous cook who cooked with love. Her specialties were many especially her Green Chili and Cucumbers in Sour Cream. No one made better sandwiches, appetizers and Bloody Mary's than Kathy! She loved to travel and made many trips to various parts of Mexico and to Spain. Kathy relished her yearly trips to Santa Fe where she shopped for Native American art and jewelry. Every year she came home with a new storyteller. She enjoyed boating with Micah, Devri and the kids on Horsetooth Reservoir and family boating trips were always a great time. She had fun going to Cripple Creek with Diana, Pennie, Netti, nieces and friends to hit the occasional jackpot. As teenagers, Kathy and Cindy traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia and then hitchhiked to California and back to Colorado staying in numerous communes along the way. They had a blast! Kathy had a green thumb and looked forward to planting flowers every spring.
She lived with and cared for her youngest granddaughters for the last two and a half years. She was a devoted caretaker to her Aunt Mae, and also to nephews Dylan and Lennon Jardin. She was referred to as OBA and Magoo by her nieces Lynn Pisani and Courtney Fuhrman.
Kathy was fun loving and had friends of all ages who appreciated her quick wit and sense of humor. She was a mentor to many family members and friends who treasured her friendship. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 at The Pinery at the Hill, 775 West Bijou Street in Colorado Springs at 11:00 am.

My sista from another mista. Dearest Kath, my heart is broken and tears are flowing. Even though I only had you as my friend for a short 2 years, it was the best 2 years. You made Colorado the sunniest place to be. Your light, your laugh and your love for life was contagious. Thank you for sharing the kool aid. Thank you for making each and every day funny. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, your stories and your life. Your friendship was a treasure but our memories is my everlasting gift. I will cherish them in my heart forever. I love you - Jersey

My deepest condolences go out to the Shelton and Montoya families. I knew Kathy for 48 years. I met Kathy, Diana, and Cindy on the same summer evening at the Manitou Penny Arcade. She always will be my sister in law. I will miss seeing her occasionally at family functions. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. I'm so thankful that her suffering is over and she is resting in the arms of Our Lord. She will be missed here on earth by all her knew her. Rest in Peace Sis.
