Kathryn Mushak Obituary

Mushak, Kathryn Cheynne Dawn--Katy Bug, 16, born September 4, 1997, in Colorado Springs, CO took flight with angels on Thursday, August 21, 2014 in a tragic car accident on Garden of the Gods Road.

She is survived by her unconditionally loving mother, Kristie Wheeler; step-father, Hossein Forouzandeh; father, Dale Mushak; brother, Kody Mushak; her best friend for life & beyond, Alyssa Bug; grandparents: Stephanie & Rick Theisen, Randy & Michelle Wheeler, and Dale & Jackie Mushak. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who miss her very much.

Katy Bug was an incredibly generous and giving angel who accepted and loved any and everyone who met her. She would always think of everybody else before herself even to the very end. Her smile and happiness shined from the first day on this Earth, and will continue to shine upon us until our last.

Katy was passionate about changing the world. She joined her mother in her activism from very early on, soon to be known as mama's "Mini Me." She loved to be active in community and politics. From protesting on street corners to visiting the Capitol and meeting with legislators, Katy always wanted to be on the forefront and would always try to include more and more friends on the causes she felt were important.

She attended Colorado Springs Early Colleges until recently deciding to self-direct her learning with guidance from mentors at Proprius, and was planning to begin college classes in the fall. She was a National Award Winner, presented by the United States Achievement Academy, receiving the National Fine Arts Award. Katy Bug provided comfort through her much loved quotes and poetry. She never ceased to amaze with her drive and achievements. She was a Published Poet at the age of 9, and again at the age of 13. She was especially interested in holistic healing, botany, and natural remedies. Katy Bug adored children and regularly visited terminally-ill kids with the desire to share her laughter, sunshine, and bring a little light to their world. It was this calling that led her toward a natural life-style and drove her studies. A kind deed was always at her fingertips.

"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Be your own kind of beautiful." -found on Katy Bug's dry-erase board.

When Katy was not providing comfort and laughter, she would be providing scares and screams at her favorite haunt. Katy Bug was recently promoted to Lead Actor-Support for Ghouls Gulch Haunted House, where she has been a volunteer; this season will be her third. Halloween being her favorite holiday, she believed it was a year-round event. She loved her Haunt Family as much as her own, especially her haunt brother, Connor; and will now really be able to have some fun on the other side.

Katy loved nature. She loved it so much that when hunting with family she even "locked all the deer up in Heaven" so that they would not be hunted. She could often be found hiking around Palmer Park and loved to go camping with family. She loved riding ATVs with her brother and cousins.

She loved all the bugs of the world, and was fond of learning about them, looking at them, and collecting them. The bug she loved the most, and the one she most valued, her brother, Kody. She loved to watch their shows together, listen to music together, and was always watching over him. She will be his guardian angel forever and ever.

Katy was not alone in her adventures as she had her best friend and accomplice Alyssa Bug always nearby. From shopping and gossip, to activism and reading, the two were, and will always be, inseparable.

Katy Bug touched the hearts, minds, and souls of more people than we will ever know. She was able to shift all of our paradigms to a better, more positive way of thinking.

"Don't say goodbye, because goodbye means going away, and going away means forgetting." -Peter Pan

My heart and condolences go out to her family. Losing her is an awful tradegy that no one was prepared for. She is a wonderful girl. She will be greatly missed everyday and more so on the nights that I am at Ghouls Gulch doing actor support or security. She was the best to work with and she made those nights great.
