KATRINA VANNEST Obituary

VANNEST
KATRINA MARIE VANNEST
April 26, 1966 February 12, 2024
Katrina was born in Saugus, California to Arthur Vincent Bielz Jr. and Marilyn (Ann) Hecketsweiler Bielz. In 1979, she and her family moved to Victor, Colorado, the birthplace of her father. Katrina quickly established herself in school as a good student, skilled athlete and wonderful friend. Upon graduation in 1984, Katrina attended Adams State College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education and a Masters of Arts degree in Human Performance and Physical Education with a Coaching Emphasis. She began her career in the Cripple Creek-Victor District in 1988, as a substitute teacher and coach. In 1990, she became a full-time K- 12 PE Teacher; and in addition, Coach for middle school and high school girls volleyball, basketball, and track.
After 7 years of dating, Katrina married the lead singer of the "Gold Rush Express," Rodney Vannest, on June 15, 1991. He was the love of her life and her undisputable support system!
Katrina was known by many names; "CK" at school, "Kitty" by friends, "Kat" by the muzzleloaders and affectionately by her father as "Schatzi" (gem, jewel, treasure, honey.)
Katrina was a director of the Franklin Ferguson Memorial Library, a member of the Ute Trail Muzzleloaders. She was an avid fisherman, hunter, 4-wheeler, and Motorcycle Mama. Her passion was her teaching and coaching. She loved the kids and they loved her back whole-heartedly! She was an absolute favorite and distinguished teacher of all times not just the year "1998 Teacher of the Year." We remember Katrina for the dedicated care of her parents in their later years. She was a true and faithful daughter.
Katrina was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Rodney; her brother, Arthur III (Tracie), niece, Megan (Eric) Miletich, their daughter, Katie; nephews, Arthur IV and Toby Carter; her brother, Donald; her brother-in-law, Mike (Karen) and their 4 children. She is also survived by her 2 beloved dogs, Chico and Oakley.
A Celebration of Life will take place June 15, 1:00 pm at the Cripple Creek-Victor Secondary School with reception following. I, Rodney Vannest, would like to thank you all- family, friends and community for your support in this time of my need. May God bless all of you! She will be sorely missed

Rod, I am so sorry to hear about Katrina. I remember the fun times we had around the dining room table at my house. If you ever come to Pueblo, please stop by. I live in the same house. Your cousin, Roberta
